My broadband modem has started to disconnect itself for no reason that I can fathom. Sometimes I can reconnect after closing down and rebooting, and sometimes not. It's a USB connection on XP Home.

Any ideas for a fix please ? Is it possible for a hacker to "steal" or to hi-jack my connection sending me offline ?

Switch to using an Ethernet connection. USB is unreliable.

Hi Alan,

You may want to look at this -

And report back your findings, you may need an engineer out, have you called tech support?

It depends if he is changing to a cable ISP such as NTL, in which an ADSL modem would not work, or not.
Some modems are ISP specific and will only work with that supplier.
I am not sure about the BT Voyager, its best checking with BT.
