So many bodies have fallen from the sky into Juliet Shreve's neighborhood that she can't remember specifics. They blend together into one limp, anonymous figure. "They never came one after another," she says. "They'd always catch you by surprise."

I am sorry but no matter how many "bodies" landed in my garden I would remember each and every one of them!

"HONEY...HOONNEEEYYY, Fido's stolen that leg bone from another body again...."

I thought you meant this bridge for a moment:

It is well known as suicide bridge. Its over Archway Road, North London. Infamous for suicides.

The Erskine Bridge over the Clyde in Glasgow was notorious for people jumping off it. The only problem was the bridge is so long they would only walk part way thus not hitting the Clyde but peoples gardens below. SO the people complained and eventually a high fence was erected so that people had to walk further to kill themselves.

Um, if they were putting a high fence along so people couldn't jump, wouldn't it have been better to have it going all the way along so the bridge couldn't be used to commit suicide?
Or is suicide a service that Glasgow Council are now providing? :)

Well if it's the Council that did it, either the budget ran out, they measured it wrong, or they're coming back to finish it. One day :erm:

I used to live in Bristol, not far from the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Due to weaknesses in the rocks of the Avon Gorge it was necessary for them to build a concrete "tunnel" along the Portway (the road that leads along the gorge under the bridge).

The local (grim) humour was that it was actually there to stop the falling bodies from causing traffic congestion... :erm:

If I lived there I'd get onto the council to put up some big railings to stop people getting up there in the first place.

I was going over that bridge at 3.45 today in my artic NFC to make a delivery at b & q on A82, Just nearing crown of bridge when I saw this lad climb over the railing, I thought at first there must be a walkway on other side, as I got closer i could see he was crouched down, hands on rails, close to his feet.then I was past him and saw no more. I rang strathclyde police with my concern that he may have jumped. Police rang me back as they wanted to meet me to take more details. When they told me..."sorry to tell you, the body of the man had been retrieved from the water"

I feel I should point out the Erskine bridge doesn't come under a Glasgow City council area. Renfrewshire and Dumbartonshire councils either side I think :)

Even if they did make the fences higher and higher people would still climb over them and jump off. The media coverage of the two girls who jumped a few months ago has made it even more 'popular' for those wanting to end things. :(

Thats still very, very sad. Especially the younger people who think this is the only option in their short lives.:(
