What is Broadband Plus?
A mass-market online content package for ntl:home broadband Internet users. It aggregates music, education, family, children's and games content services from a number of leading content brands.

Who can get Broadband Plus?
Broadband Plus is exclusive to ntl:home and is only available to 600k and 1Mb broadband users

When does it launch?
Trials for Broadband Plus start on 1st November. From this date Broadband Plus will be made available to a controlled manner via the BU's and to a dedicated group of trial participants whose understanding of the product will be monitored. The full national launch will take place on 1st December.

How much will Broadband Plus cost?
Beyond the launch offer (free for the first three months), there will be a charge of £3.99 per month for full and unlimited access to all Broadband Plus content. This compares to the £35 per month that this content would cost you (approximately) if you were to access it via the content partners' own websites.

We understand the following 'Brand Partner's' are involved in Broadband Plus

Even more work for Technical Support. Hope there are no more worms about when it launches.

Will the guidelines on downloading allowances (because they say it is not a cap) be altered in the AUP to take account of this extra service they are giving us?

I would have thought that it would have been better to concentrate resources on getting the existing systems working properly before offering enhanced content.

btw looking at the things I have seen it looks great, its aimed at the people not like us that dont have the time to scroll the net looking for this stuff, it will be right there for £4 a month. Screen shots of it look good, I can see why they are limiting it to 600k and up as the portal page is well purdy.

I sent some screen shots to someone off this forum, but pc world formated my pc so I dont have them. I would not mind if they could resend back to me though :)

This existed as a thread on NTHELLWORLD.COM but it now appears to have gone.

One can only assume that because NTL own the other side, this has resulted in the thread being removed because it's talking about company confidential info.

:(

As for my opinions on broadband plus, I was impressed by Ian's comments on the other site and this. Why not invest money and resources into getting the network sorted first. and I agree with Kronas, sort out 2mb first!

I see another court case on the horizon!

I did notice a post in it where someone told the thread starter that they shouldn't have posted it as it was confidential and they said 'oh crap' and instigated a mod to remove it!! Someones in trouble

First you cap all unlimited users, then you come up with an unlimited service and want the mugs to pay more even though ADSL is cheaper .

Now that sounds like NTL logic going off past experience of them

Wonder if this is what Bill Cap has been cooking up sounds like one of his daft ideas

Wonder if one of the mods could add a poll to this thread who would pay extra, looking at NTls past record do we expect the service to be good.

Good support, friendly CS,

when you say with limits....what limits you talking about exactly?

i belive the cap thing is being looked at........

as for getting their priorities straight - i recon ALOT more people will go for this than a 2mg line. As they are a buisness, surely it makes more sence for ntl to go after the larger market??

But when does it start?? Wasn't it suppose to be free to all BB customers for 3 months?

edit - 1st of November!! :o

If we don't want it after the three months, do we have to tell ntl we don't want it or will it just end?

You can get it if you know where to look (or even how to look). The kind of people I would think would buy something like this are those newbies that are still afraid of clicking links in case they damage something.

With Newsgroups next to useless and e-mail, DNS servers and the Inktomi's flakey at best, how well is Broadband plus likely to work?

We'll e-mail you at the address you provideed when signing up to say that your 3 months is almost over and offering a link to Opt In and sign up to B+.

If you choose not to sign up, the trial will end at the end of the 3 months.
We will not presume that you want the service merely because you did not say you did not.

Both on this site and t'other site I`ve seen people regularly asking when NTL are going to roll out a 2meg service. I personally don`t ever recall anyone asking if NTL are going to provide extra online content. Did NTL do any kind of customer research on this before launch, or have they merely assumed that it is what customers want.

I have been having a good nose around the product tonight and it looks pretty good. Given the fact that it's aimed at the less experienced user, I think it hits the mark in that respect.

Research HAS shown a need for this product, not everyone has the internet experience of users of nthw. I deal with many such customers, it can all be quite bewildering to some people. Broadband Plus provides premium content at a low cost, all organised and presented easily, and the site it uses has been well designed.

After you ACCESS ALL AREAS you should be put through a grey coloured registration page.

The URL will end with not_registered until you do.

Have you registered?

Broadband Plus recognises you based on your MAC address (an address held in your hardware).

When your MAC address comes to www.ntlworld.com/broadbandplus, the website checks you out. If you have registered, it lets you straight in, if not it will point you to one of two pages (1. you need to be an ntl broadband customer, or 2. you need to register)

There is no need to remember a login or password.

Hope that clears it up.

It was meant to say, if I copy one of the bb+ links into AOL and use a dial up connection with them (no BB connection active) then it still allows me to use the service. Sorry, long day, but I have sent you 2 screen shots, with the IPs of the active connection ;)
