No Recorded Sound

Just returned from short hol to find that the prog I recorded on tape...
Stargate...on Sky1...Mon,Sept 29...8pm...recorded,but with NO sound...
This includes the adverts...Does anyone know if there was a prob with that channel...Prog recorded 2 nites later was fine...both thro ntl dtv.... :)

have you checked your scart connection to the back of the vcr?

Well, check all your cables are in tight first, but ... there is a recognised software problem with some Pace set-top boxes which leads to sound cutting out as one advert ends and another begins, under certain circumstances. Changing channel up and straight back down again solves the sound problem, but this is no help if you've set the video and gone out. The techs at NTL have been aware of this one for six months or so - there's a very long running thread about it at nthellworld.com - but despite having worked out more or less what causes it, they have had trouble programming a solution that doesn't in turn cause more problems.

So, for the time being, it's just one more aspect of NTL service for us to grumble about ... :(
