:welcome: to cable forum

Not really sure what most of that means but by bumping this thread hopefully someone else could see it.

Can you confirm are you connecting to a cable modem or Set Top Box for your boradband, and does your PC have ethernet or USB connection (Ethernet is most definitely preferred, as it uses dedicated hardware on the card rather than the software and other general resources of the PC)

Can't really help with the problem as such, but I will say that the "localhost crap" wouldn't affect your connection as it's handled by Windows by using a virtual network adaptor that just connects to itself.

Basically, several Windows program use this virtual NIC to communicate with themselves and other programs..

Surely there must be a way to remove these ?? Blueyonder support this is spyware and theres nothing wrong with their network. They are saying its my pc thats to blame for my connection problem. but ive ran spyware, virus checks, installed a different firewall to windows one... everything seems to check out ok..

I am kso frustrated...

Anyone else able to help ??

I run windows XP Pro with windows firewall. I am NOT using a router. Xp has a messenger service that runs in the background (this is not releated to the "windows instant messenger").
Have you you disabled it?? If not, go into control panel, admin tools,....
A window pops up with a large listing of internal programs that may/may not be running. scroll down the list to you get to messenger, right click and choose properties, set it as disabled and apply. If it is running then click on stop.
After you have done all this restart your machine.

Xp firewall is not the greatest of them all, try d/loading zonealarm (it's free) and install that.

Once you have done all that try netstat again and see if it made any difference.

If you wanted you could just reformat your machine and reinstall XP, do netstat after each time you install something.

When you installed spybot did you go into the settings and made sure that everything was classed as " don't ignore "

Spybot does have 3rd party spyware in it...it warns you not to disable it when youi 1st start useing spybot as it may affect the running of it. Well i've right clicked on all the tabs in the ignore section and clciked unselect all.

AFAIK, spybot doesn't use spyware at all (it would be hypocritical for a program designed to combat spyware to use it itself). IIRC Spybot does warn you that if you have any software that uses spyware legitimately (such as programs funded by advertising), then deleting that spyware may disable them. It also warns you that if you have any other anti spyware programs, their signature files may generate false spyware warnings.

Yes, your right...i'd misread that...oops but on the other hand if you look in the advance settings......
I reinstalled it and now able to see the following "ticked to ignore" in the products section

CDilla (twice)
New.Net
SideStep

so i'd still select "desect all" to ignore nothing
