View Full Version : Import Duty and Postage
I've recently purchased goods from the States $29 value
I have now received an invoice from FedEx for VAT etc. £12.75 VAT and £4.50 Admin fee
At todays rate this would be about 86% VAT
Or is Postage costs included in the VAT charges if so this looks like FedEx has a licence to print money (I know the VAT goes to the goverment but they get to charge a %age of the VAT as Admin fee)

Goods + Postage cost all converted to £
£ * Duty charge ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£ÃƒÆ ’‚£
£ÃÆ ’‚£ * VAT charge £ÃÆ ’‚£Ãà¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£
Admin fee.
Parcel force charge £8 or £12 admin so be grateful.
Rs - £18 duty (inc fee) for £14.90 goods (Great saving!)
Jeez what did you buy?
I just got some new glasses off the internet (USA) that cost me (converted) £46
Made a killing on the savings but did not get a bill etc???
Or should I expect that soon?

Firstly, the VAT is set by customs. It doesn't matter what you paid for it, or think its worth, it is what customs value it as.
Secondly, £4.50 probably isn't that bad for an admin fee, considering they have to store the item, ask you for the money, process payment, sort it with customs, etc.

I thought you didn't have to pay duty etc if the goods cost under £18?
