Well as you all may know by now, im off to college in September. The course i will be doing is a 1 year BTEC 1st Diploma for IT Practitioners. and 3 out of all the things i will be studying and will find most interesting are:

Web Design

Computer Maintenence

Binary Coding (i think its also called ASCII?)

Anyway i went to the college this eveing for a presentation and afterwoods we looked round at the I.T Suites, and i will tell you now they were like the size of an aircraft hanger. But some were like usual sized classrooms as well.

Binary coding - do they still do that? - unless it's different, in my day that was using a dodgy keypad to enter code in 1's and 0's to make lights come on and off in sequences and control robot arms!

Good luck Wayne - enjoy the college life (and no hacking!)

Never mind you could always say I wasn't hacking just sending a series of 1's and 0's over a network that happened to be misunderstood by your computer...

Binary Coding (i think its also called ASCII?)

Dunno about that, possibly called "assembler", which is all about hex.

There are 11 different types of people in this world.

Those that understand Binary, and those that don't.

Possibly. However, in the first year of my degree, we had to learn to code on custom designed boards (based on the 68000) by using switches to manipulate the memory directly. You learn to code efficiently..

With nealy all these courses you will find you have to learn some basic code to get started.
Its like in the web design too, they will probably make you learn how to code in html before you can go and do it directly in Dreamweaver.
I guess its just part of the course.
I hope you enjoy it and the course goes well for you.

When i was up there with my mum earlier, the tutor was explaining all these different things to me and my mum hadnt the slightest clue as to what she was going on about. She said to me "I think im going to take a part time course in I.T".

Try not to worry mate, it is normally the best time of your life. Try and enjoy it, especially the first year. Just stay off the marijuana and make sure you get your assignments in in time. Other than that, just relax and enjoy it mate.

Yes, beer. Drink plenty of it. Don't take any crap off your liver;) Plus beer and pubs generally opens a whole social experience to you which can really positively influence your uni experience.

Seriously though, marijuana isn't addictive, but its effects are. What starts off as a once a week smoke after your work is done, easily turns into 3-5 times a week habit making you postpone your work. I've seen it happen a lot.

All of these courses share the same units, obviously the easier ones have less units, the one I did had 18; just got my portfolio home today and it weighs a tonne! :shocking:
