Apparently there are plans to make Peter Mandelson the replacement European Commissioner for Neil Kinnock. His existing £56,000 salary will triple and he gets a chauffeured car, and lavish living and entertainment allowances.

Personally I think that given the corruption in this government and Mandelson's part in it and the financial irregularities in Brussels, which Kinnock failed to find, Mandelson is the last person to deserve the job.

What do other forum members think?

They could do worse. They could put a French guy in their and the financial irregularities in Brussels would triple

Not really, Brussels is becoming the new power base and what happens there affects us e.g. they pass laws that we don't agree with. Mandelson would be at the seat of power.

Also Mandelson doesn't deserve to get that kind of lifestyle, when there are far more honest and caring people who do.

It's interesting too that the lady who investigated and exposed the fraud in Brussels was sacked by Neil Kinnock.

It's time for the passengers on the Brussels gravy train to receive their marching orders.

True, you've got Romano Prodi, who came in with a promise of zero toleration of corruption, saying that the commissioners responsible for the Eurostat scandal are whiter than white and needn't resign.

You've got Kinnock who is supposed to be rooting out corruption (we really ought to move this thread to the Humour forum) and, who, as you said, sacked the Dutch chief accountant who blew the whistle rather than supporting her. Kinnock seems to have gone completely native; if someone was seen leaving Berlimont with his pockets bulging with 1000 Euro notes, Kinnock would say that there was nothing wrong. He really is a disgrace.

The European Commission is bent, corrupt, detached from reality and a law unto itself. Mandelson was born for the job.
