Councillor is hoist by his own speed camera

A councillor who spent £2,300 of his official allowance on a mobile speed camera for his ward has become one of its first victims.

Robert Marshall, a Conservative on South Staffordshire district council, responded to complaints about speeding by buying the camera, which is operated by police.

But within a week he was caught doing 43mph in a 30mph limit in Bilbrook, near Wolverhampton. He was given a £40 fine and three points on his licence.

Mr Marshall, 43, who represents the Codsall South ward, said he realised the moment he was flagged down by police that he had been caught by the camera he had bought out of the £10,000 each councillor has to spend on their ward.

Mr Marshall said the policeman, who knew him, had difficulty hiding a smile as he was booked. He added: "Well at least it shows it works."

bwhaaaaaaaaaaa they say its normally the residents of an area that are more likely to get caught for speeding,as the majority of visitors to that town/village abide by the rules so serves him right really :D :D
