Does anybody know if NTL are gonna match this?
if they don't i will be jumping ship:angel: 450Kbps upload will be good for me as i'm Xbox Live gamer.

I certainly won't be. MY NTL service has gone down I think once in 2 years.

A BTOpenworld account I have experience of, goes down completely once every 1-2 weeks. And every other day, or occaisonally two, you have to disconnect and reconnect to get the service backs. Disgraceful reliability.

You could always choose a decent ADSL isp.

That's great, as long as you're in the area to get the MAX speed. Don't forget, it's not guaranteed that you'll get anywhere near that. :)

Yes, 8mbps maybe, but with BT's crappy cap, the speed will eat it within a few hours.

Hehe pings wise it won't, infact it could make them worse as BT are only guaranteeing on the trials that speeds will be over 2Mbps at peak times, they will be extensively traffic shaping customers to try and prevent their exchanges from maxing out. Will only be of any use for hosting, can't see many people on ADSL, and certainly not on IPStream touching the pings I have right now:

Personally I find the Red/Amber/Green stats on Samknows (these are stats with existing speeds not the 8Mbps services) found at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/capacity-summary.php a little disconcerting.

If you're a downloader though am sure it'll be all good... so long as you're realistic and aren't expecting to see anywhere near 8Mbit at peak times.

^^ Even with my crappy router (likes to spike me with lag :( ).

If ADSL goes to offering up to high speeds, I'm all for cable going that way too, even if the congestion will only be up to 80% of your speed (given that they offer something like, lets say...10mb ;) :p: ); however if it affects pings there is no way i can support it.

as speeds go up contention affect goes up with it, I would expect max speed to go way below 80% at peak time on a 8mbit connection using 50:1 contention.

First post of this thread I think...

It's BT WHOLESALE not BT Broadband / Retail / Yahoo who are introducing the 8Mbit product, loads of ISPs will be offering it, some of them will offer it uncapped.

There's also Bulldog and UKOnline who offer up to 8Mbit right now, UKOnline cap at a measly 500GB a month though.

Well, Sam says I am 1.93KM away from my exchange so I doubt I would get anywhere near full speed on this.....?

I beleive that with this sort of speed available to "A Fair Few" people that NTL have more than likely got something up their sleeves to counter this.....They are surley not going to stand still are they?

I live 50 yards from my local exchange, although theres no LLU, SDSL yet
