Error on recording Sky +

Is it normal to get errors on sky + when you record? it only happens sometimes like when I tried to record BB on Friday it had the red light on but did not record just said error?

I think my Mrs turned the channel to have a sneaky look. And that why it did not work. I'm sure I may be wrong........

Anyone help?

Yeah, this can happen and unbelieveably it happened to me recently. It gets worse too by the way...

There are a couple of things that can go wrong with SKY+ and recordings, you can just end up with a FAILED message (with no reason given), or the recording will suceed but you will not be able to actually "play" the recording and the yellow bar at the top will show no hard disk space being taken up by the recording even though its supposed to have worked.

On top of this you have another issue which is related but im not sure excatly what causes it - lost hard disk space. You could delete all your recordings and planner entried and it would still say for example 75% free.

There are two ways to fix this, both are related to corruption on the hard disk and this can be fixed by a less and a more sever method depending on the level of corruption.

If you goto the Services menu, then press 4, 1, 0 and then select you will enter a hidden menu where you can access some more funtions - if you select planner rebuild this will recover in some cases all of your hard disk space and in other cases some of your hard disk space and do a bit of a cleanup. This dosent always work though and is the reason why there is another option there called Full system reset. Unlike the planner rebuild this will format your hard disk and clear your planner entries leving you with a guaranteed 100% disk space, a planner rebuilt just tried to do the best with what its got.

If you try either of these methods give it at least 10 minutes before you turn the box back on (and i mean 10 minutes), no other system setting will be affected.

From what i can gather failed recordings are the first sign of a corrupted hard disk - but - that depends on who you speak to. Either way if you get an oppertunity once in a while wher you have only a small amount of programs set for recording or you dont mind loosing what you have - a Full system reset every so often will do no harm.
