Have just sent a test message to my zen dial up account, it is going through, albeit rather slow. Checked the headers then did a trace on the IP which resolved to Winnersh and it reported 20% packet loss on last hop. Could the be a cause of the problems sending mail?

I use Freeuk, Tiscali, UKonline, Yahoo, Hotmail, Freeserve mail boxes using dial ups in my office, I can say I have not experienced any problems with them.

Not forgetting AOL of course.

can someone please get out and give the email servers a push?

Man I could get a carrier pigeon to work faster.

Dunno if its the planned maintenance thats causing this slowdown, but simply trying to connect, receive and delte email is taking ages. Often it times out or the server terminates the connection.
It has just taken me 4 minutes to retreive 1 email from my account. (i use mailwasher and outlook).

I'm in Teesside btw.
Anyone else having trouble?

To answer Nemesis, I am sure other companies have emails problems too, but they get off their back side and do something about it, and the problem gets fixed, within hours. This company just sits on the problem and hope it will go away. Thats why I say this company sucks.

I am not going to dial a 0845 number just to find out. Spent enough money and time on this stupid company already.

I wonder if it's something to do with the "MS update" virus. I have had well over 100 emails asking my to apply the attached update in the last 48 hours.

Its 7am, and sending and receiving of email is fast as lightning again. Why can't it stay this way the whole day???

so, let me get this straight, you cant be arsed to report the problem ( whenever i have phoned faults it is 0800... ) but you expect them to come and fix it ...

when you break down in a car do you phone a garage or sit at the side of the road like a moron waiting for someone to come and fix the car

Has anyone else been experiencing problems with timeouts on email or email problems?

Does anyone know if NTL are using IIS?

If so I think its their bandwidth throttling.

They may need to disable it.

Yes I've been having trouble with email on outlook express yesterday and today. Although at present it seems okay. Don't know how long that will last though. :(

I've just looked at the service status site and it states that the ntl email is having problems. Engineers are looking into to it. :(

MMmmmm, this Lycos seems quite attractive, can you use Outlook Express on it, or is it a wholly web mail account???

Don't get me wrong, I am not defending ntl: BUT.... I am on BT broadband at work and also use another 2 isps at work... they have all been really bad over the past cuple of days - no email in or out for hours.... BT and freeserve excuses are that a dummy microsoft upgrade message carrying a virus has swamped the system and they are trying to protect us! ...................

It's probably true, rippedoff. There have been stacks of those false upgrade messages. I have had the same message with about 7 different subject titles so whoever is sending it is trying to confuse people.

BT have now probably got a network of infected and uninfected machines and is doing its best to stop the uninfected ones from becoming infected.

Windows 2000 and XP seem to be particularly susceptible. Makes you think if upgrading to those operating systems is worth it if they are so vulnerable. So much for onwards and upwards!!

New record here: Message sent from Lycos 25.9.03 19:47 received in FreeUK 28.9.03 2:01 , took 54 hours

Message from ntl 26.9.03 23:40 arrived at Freeserve 28.9.03 6:07 28 hrs.

Slowness doesn't confine to ntl.
