45 Mins on phone with CS and all I get is your problem has been esculated up the chain and you'll get a phone call back SOMETIME. Not much cop really as I'm back at work tomorrow and can't do anything from there. I know where the problem is, any tracert to a website off the NTL network gives very high pings on this ip 62.253.185.86 and gaming is impossible - either cant even see the server I want to connect too or if I get connected all it says is connection interrupted :(

Cool same as mine then, do you play any on-line games. See if you can play on a Jolt server - all I get is connection interrupted :(
Also the name of the server on that hop indicates that is part of the NTL network is this correct? Or am I saying its NTL when its not really? hehe

Looks like an NTL server to me.

Don't play any games so I can't help you much more I'm afraid, sorry.

tele ic1 and 2 just are extremely busy servers, thus always give slow replies to ping requests.

As the times from after this hop of the trace are fine, it will not be causing you a problem.

EDIT: info and detailed expanation here: http://www.chetnet.co.uk/articles/index.php?page=index_v2&id=29&c=5

Thats strange cos I still cant get connected to any Jolt servers - CoD keeps saying connection interrupted but other servers are OK. I'm thinking that the problem is now Jolt and not NTL - that'll teach me to jump to conclusions :)

Well still cant play on the Jolt servers and CS didn't get back to me as promised, I think it unlikely that Jolt is the problem now (as I know of loadsa ppl playing on them no problem) and that there is an error on the NTL network somewhere causing this problem. I'm still getting extremely high pings on the tracert to Jolt on the tele server hop - which to be honest just doesn't seem right (it's first time that its been high for me).

Yeah I read that and appreciate that those servers are busy but every time I've done these tracert's before the pings have all been normal. Now the pings on the tracert's (over last three days) are approx 8-10 times higher than what I used to get, so does this mean that the tele servers are oversubscribed rather than just busy. Or has the network traffic just taken a massive boost upwards :)

Patience is an extreme virtue.

Try pinging www.ntlworld.com instead, it doesn't have firewalling infront of it which is causing the weirdness you are seeing pinging ntl.com.

Nothing obviously wrong by the way, I'm not convinced that ntl are at fault. Those routers feed all ntl customers connectivity to Jolt, if they were munted a lot more than just yourself would be complaining.

My broadband in Cambridge CB4 had been slower than dialup on Tuesday and Wednesday, however waking up on Thursday everything is back to normal.

I'm in CB4, Broadband has been very slow the past 10 days or so. I'm not a gamer, but there members of my household that are. Can I argue with NTL that they are not supplying the 2mb service I am paying for, and get some form of refund? Looking on the NTL pages there seem to be a lot of maintainance work going on all over the country, with promises of more interupted service to come!

What is the best way to check 100% what speeds I am achieveing?
Until recently I found the speed and reliability of NTL in Cambridge pretty good, but Im loosing faith rapidly.

(edit) just noticed there is a speed test on forum!!

thanks
Kelvin
