Hiya all

I am soon to finally get my driving license, I fancy buying my own car to take through this or have outside as for when I pass my test, I will insure it once I am through.

I have been with the instructor in 2003 sadly due to a problem my taking of my driving test was put off for 2years due to illness, now I plan on getting it all done again.

I fancy a Peugeot 1.1 106 Independance, I saw today for 3500. MJ52 AHC was its plate.

However I find even if I run insurance on a full uk license, My quotes are massivly over 1800 quid!! this is just plain stupid.

Is there some magic car you guys buy which has super low insurance, as I do not wish to start my driving time in a shed just to afford insurance?

Some help and advice here please :dozey:

Who has quoted you that  - have you tried some of the online quotes ?

Talking of quotes, you might want to check the one in your sig ;)

I found Tesco were cheapest when i first passed- but i was still paying £1100 on a G reg 1.0l metro....

Have you thought about doing pass plus? many insurance companies will give you between 5 and 30% off in your first year if you have.

AndrewJ

I am thinking seriously about doing pass plus I plan on passing with a school called Gemini which uses Rover 45 Si's.

( and whats wrong with my sig ) :D

I tried.

www.confused.com (http://www.confused.com)

and

www.admiral.co.uk (http://www.admiral.co.uk)

and

www.norwichunion.co.ulk (http://www.norwichunion.co.ulk)

Because I am disabled and the car is on a street ( no driveway till about August ) I think its bumping the costs up big time.

Shouldn't it be "Not Noddy, Nobby"?

The sad fact of the matter is that this is not surprising at all. I think you will be extremely lucky for someone of your age and only just obtaining a full UK driving license to get a quote from anywhere cheaper than £1000, assuming it is fully comprehensive insurance you are after.

It is yes and I fancied the 1.1 Pug 106 but looks like I will have to go with something older. Can see me ending up with my mums old Pug 309 GLD.

try www.adrianflux.co.uk . they are a broker hat specialise in various special areas.... supposedly fairly cheap for young drivers, performance drivers and barry-drivers... :erm:

I am thinking seriously about doing pass plus...

I think that's a good idea. For one it covers stuff the normal lessons/test don't cover, and some insurance companies will also give a discount if you've got it.

Because I am disabled...

I hope they wouldn't discriminate.

Anyway, I get my insurance from http://www.cis.co.uk and they've always been very good on price AND (possibly equally important) very good when it came to handling a claim.

for your first car, it's probably not worth spending £3500, simply because of the insurance. aim to spend a lot less, and then it makes sense to only get 3PF&T as well...

i pay £600 for a car valued at £1000, im 23, no no claims...

OK, I didn't tell you this but. Buy, now, an old heap - the cheapest you can find that's street legal.Tax it, park it up, leave it, accumulate no claims........

Not sure why disability should bump your premium. Age, experience, claims record, vehicle and postcode are pretty much the key factors. No claims makes a sig difference.

Avoid the cost of road tax - simply declare it SORN and take it off the road :) - even LESS likely to get hit.

If possible put a parent on the policy as a named driver - my daughter put me on hers and the price dropped by about £200 (apparently it lessens their risk or something!)

young female drivers pay substancially less than young male drivers for insurance.

Thanks for the tips guys, I am going to run some through with Peugeot's 406's and 306's some of the older pugs.

I tend to lie over to the PUG family as we have had them in the family for god knows how many years now. So I would prefer to stick with a maker I know quite a bit about.

It does seem I don't know anything about this insurance lark. Kinda shocked my self there.

There are about 3 insurance companies I have found that are all about the same, and really cheap. They are Admiral, More Than, and Direct Line. I hear Tesco are about that cheap too. I am suprised you have already tried Admiral, but try More Than. Norwich Union are terrible, just like Churchill, they don't want young and first timers.

If you are over 21, you could get a new Vauxhall, they have free insurance atm. Be warned you could face a bit of a hefty renewal though. Norwich Union wanted £2000 for me when my free Micra insurance, ran out, I switched to Admiral to about £1000.

What Chim says is true, it is all run on statistics, so that tends to bring it down. If it doesn't help enough, you can put your parent on as the main driver, with you as a named driver, but you won't accumlate any no claims bonus.

The only other advice I can give you is to buy a copy of Top Gear and Max Power. They have loads of independent insurance companies in the back, they will insure young men at a sensible rate. Worth a shot if you don't mind being on the phone.

( and whats wrong with my sig ) :DApart from the fact it's in capitals and missing any punctuation ? - it's also wrong, you have Noddy & Nobby mixed up.

Not Noddy, Nobby, Nibble Nobby's nuts, can't any of you people read ? :)

Hey I had just come back from the pub, be gratefull it was not too explicit  :D .

Cheers for the advice all, what would I do without you :D :D

Going to get a top gear mag, and blow my tv up that crazy frog remix ringtone with the Axel tune in it is on yet AGAIN  .

SO what do all you first timers drive??

I can get a brand new 206 with free insurance??

I've just got my new car insured with www.firstalternative.com and got a good deal with them, but before that I was a named driver under my parents and found www.liverpoolvictoria.co.uk . I've only just turned 18 and found that insurance prices hurt.

I got started with a new Micra with free insurance.

The Peugeots have come with free insurance in the past, so it is worth checking. Even if it isn't advertised, they can sometimes include it as an incentive to seal the sale. You can only ask. Its not a bad way to go, as if you don't have an accident in the year, they will keep you on at a good rate. I had problems in that I was under 21, and Nissan changed their policy to 21+, so I had no choice but to leave.

if im careful, can easily get 45 mpg on the motorway. generally get just over 30mpg round town. ts passed down thorugh the family though, so i know it's been regularly seviced etc.
And what did you load it up with the bust the suspension?
can easily get 6 bikes and 5 people in/on a corsa if you really try ;)
wouldn't advise it though :erm:

I know of one person where I live. She got a micra for free due to a heart condition she has. Her old car did not have power steering. To get a car it depends on how disabled you are . Might be worth a try.

Unfortunatly Insurance companys will always scr*w us.

15 years ago when I was 21 I was in volved in a serious car crash that totalled my second hand Mazda 626, that was only 3 weeks old, I was taken to hospital (sevre shock) and could not get any witness statements, the other driver did (girlfriend) and I was blamed. when I got my next car a A-reg 1.1l Escort the cheapest quote I got was £880:Yi kes: .

I know own a 2.0l Shappire, that cost me £360, I looked around other Insureance companies as I'm planning to get another car, out of intrest I went back to my very first insurance company www.theaa.com (http://www.theaa.com) and I got a quote of £200.:D

AndrewJ
02-05-2005, 22:21
1.1 Escort I bet that was flat on a hill with 3 in the back ;)

Going to do some online quotes on cars I have spotted about for reasonable cash, spotted a old shape Rover 400 416Si Auto about for 498quid with 3month warranty.

May be worth a looky

Don't be put off that Rover has gone t*ts up.

There parts people have plenty of spares going to last.

I'm thinking of getting a Rover ZR V8 model.

What ever my next car is i'm looking at the car first, insurance second.

AndrewJ
02-05-2005, 23:03
I have pondered over a new CityRover, they do a 1.1 engined model and I am sure I could hammer home a rather nice deal while Rover go down the pan, although warranty would be non existant.

I wonder if I still owe say 2400 on the car and Rover vanish never to be seen again.

Do I get it discounted as I have lost my warranty?

iain_herts
02-05-2005, 23:07
befor i got my corsa last year. i saw anouther corsa 1.6 put the deposit down went home to arrange insurce to be change over in a weeks time and told me they could not insure me on it cos of my age so before u do get a car just make sure u can get insurence

AndrewJ
02-05-2005, 23:09
Aye so I have heard a few times people buy a car sign the finance and find out they cannot afford to insure it or cannot get insurance so they have a expensive toy outside they cannot drive. :dozey:
