I dont want to be told you'll be better with a router. Just if this will work.

modem > switch> pc and ps2
Diagram explains.

I'm not certain but, the way I understand this you will have two devices (your PC and the PS2) sharing the same IP address if you configure things like this.....

I could be wrong though.....

Oh yeah, and you'd be better off with a router you know ;)

Sorry mate, but know this will not work. A switch has no way to perform NATS, or query the modem for an IP etc...

Hate to say it.. but you need a router with a switch built in..

I daresay someone who knows more about these things will be along soon to correct me :)

Nope. You need a router, or you could use ICS.

Cheap (& good) router: Linksys BEFSR41 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005KAC7/qid=1114724397/sr=1-8/ref=sr_1_3_8/026-9179932-9988406

ok..... I'll buy a router http://images.neowin.net/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif lol
Just seeing if can get around not buying one, just for my sons ps2 lol

http://www.abocom.com.tw/product_detail.php?id=294

That should do the job, Not like it will have a big load, Only maximum of 1mb run though it.

So modem > router > pc/ps2

(buying from http://www.web-systems.co.uk cheap local shop)

yeah, that setup (with router rather than switch) will work great.

I can also vouch for the BEFSR41 router... we have one as a spare since upgrading to a wireless one (BEFW11S4 - which is also very good)

Actually the setup the OP enquired about it possible- but you will need the ntl PS2 service (www.ntlworld.com/ps2) for an extra £2 per month. You will be supplied with the additional cables and switch that are required.

The OP has the switch, and the router he will be looking at is £15. After eight months it will have paid for itself compared to the NTL service..
