I've just recently upgraded my telewest connection from 1mb to 4mb. This is because we have a pc and a xbox connected straight into the modem and also 2 laptops connected wirelessly. The problem were finding is that it doesn't seem as if the connections updgraded. As i play games online i would have noticed the difference through the latency yet it is still remains the same if not worse. I did a bandwidth test online and it said the connection was 1.1mb which is confusing  . Does n e 1 reckon if the problem is at my end or at Telewests? Cheers for any help Ad

:welcome: to the site. :)

It sounds like you haven't been upgraded, so this speed test & paste back the results: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/speedtest.html

Also make sure you've got no P2P apps running that may be crippling your downstream by uploading at full pelt!

With your pc on, pull power lead from modem, then turn pc off.

1 minute later (they say 10-15 will work immed but wait 1 min) plug power to modem back in and watch it boot up till all lights are the way they normally are (make sure if it doesnt it hasnt booted up and went to standby, if so press standby button.

Then start up pc and you should be on new speed if they have indeed upgraded at their end.

I always make sure i've got no p2p running especially when playing games online and i've even gone to the extent of closing some of the processes running in task manager (well only the ones which u dont need running) to help with the speed. Ive also tried turning off the modem etc. but still there has been no change. I will try the bandwidth test when i get home and paste the results thanks for the help Ad

Heres the results:
1st 128K took 821 ms = 159649 Bytes/sec = approx 1328 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 1012 ms = 129518 Bytes/sec = approx 1078 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 741 ms = 176885 Bytes/sec = approx 1472 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 1211 ms = 108235 Bytes/sec = approx 901 kbits/sec

As said above, try rebooting everything as well as the router, if that doesn't help plug the modem into the back of the computer, reboot modem again and test the speed if your still experiencing problems phone blueyonder tech support.

No upgrade has taken effect, if the modem/PC reboot doesn't do the trick, a call to TW will be required.
