For some strange reason, at around 19.15 every evening for the past 3 days, I've been disconnected, but reconnected later on. Anyone have a reason for this?

With my limited technical experience, I'd hazard a guess that your signal levels aren't quite right.

We had the same trouble a few months ago. We'd be disconnected early evening and then be reconnected later that night (say, 11pm or later).

When an engineer called out he diagnosed dodgy signal levels and gave the explanation that the signals weren't bad enough to cause trouble during the day, but at night when everyone in the area came online, the effects were seen.

So, go to your CM admin webpage and check your levels.

cheers, gkhewitt (http://member.php?u=2333). I schecked the CM page and the power levels for d/s are VEEEEEERRRRRRRY low, whereas the u/s is about average.

Where is my CM admin webpage??

I keep losing my upload and would't mind checking my leveles....NTL have already changed my modem and supposedly fixed a fualt on the line but still the problem persists....I am now at a loss as what to do?

NTL do not seem to want to know anymore.

A while back I was getting disconnected at around 1am every day.. the modem and router are inaccessible at that time of night so I couldn't check on them but tech support blamed my router (which was functioning fine), however the uptime reported by DOSCDIAG showed that the modem was rebooting about this time. Problem eventually stopped and I still have no idea why.

UN and PW are both 'root' on mine.
user/pass both 'admin'
either will work.

Make sure that you don't have a proxy explicitly specified and if you can't then get to the page reboot everything and try again.

Don't you think I've already tried that? I've checked on the modem status page: the d/s power is pathetic.

Ian's just trying to help you. He doesn't have to.

If your downstream power is low, phone Broadback Tech Support. They need to check the line, and possibly send an engineer out.

Appologies to Ian, I'm just irritated by this.

wot exactly are good levels ? (number wise)

Around 36-ish

hmmm... well mine says:

Downstream Receive Power Level : -0.15 dBmv
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 50.75 dBmv

They seem quite a below and above 36 respectively... lol... is this bad? or am i looking at the wrong levels?

Although my service seems to be running fine... no disconnections, and speeds are fine...

In which case I may be very wrong.

wot exactly are good levels ? (number wise)

Downstream Signal To Noise Ratio - 30db or above
Will probably stop working below 24db.

Downstream Received Power Level -
NTL Area ideal world - +/- 2.5 dbmv
Ex Cable & Wireless - -6 to -3 dbmv

Upstream - +8 to +58 dbmv

Taken from the gurus page found here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/signal.html#goodlevs)

:D

Upstream of +58 is the maximum allowable, it's not a good value to have. Up to about 55 is OK, above that you're in danger of needing more power than the modem is allowed to send out, and it'll either break the spec (most do) or drop off.
