Not sure if that's the right title, but here we go

I work for a local company, my hours are 5-10, monday to thursday
Sometimes, although it's getting less often, we finish early and can go home
By early I mean 9:30ish
But sometimes, we finish late, i.e, 10:15-10:45pm

Herein lies the problem
Because we sometimes finish early and get paid for it, we're expected to remain after 10pm when there's still work, UNPAID
Now personally I don't know if this breaks any kind of law, but I for one don't like finishing at 10:30 or even 10:45 at night
I took the job because it was 5-10, no later
When this issue is brought up, we're basically told, if we don't like it, leave
If we want to leave at 10pm, when there's still work to do, we're told no, we can't.

Bleh
Any feedback?

If the cdontract states 5-10 then 10 is when you finish. No later, but also NO EARLIER.

If you finish your work earlier than 10 you need to stay until 10, and your boss can give you something else to do. It's important you don't go early, otherwise your boss is justified in asking you to work that time back another night.
