View Full Version : how do i know my BT phone line is digital or analog?
hi,
how do i know my BT phone line is digital or analog?
i have BT Pay and call phone line
and i bought new canon all in one Printer machine MP390
fax is not working (scanner, copier, priter are working fine) when i plugged everything as shown on the giude book.
i asked canon help desk they asked me whether my BT line is digital or analog?
i don't know what to say!!!
please help me
I'm usually wrong but arn't analogue just over the on PSTN...whereas the new digital phones lines are ISDN.
hmm
they asked me to change the line to digital
and they asked me to buy transformer
unless you are on a ISDN connection or internal phone network, your telephone line is analgue...
sorry ,
i don't know these types of connections?
please explain
I'd say its a very, very good chance it is an analogue connection.
ISDN is digital, PTSN is analogue and the type 99% or so of houses will have.
do you mean mine is anolog connection?
sorry i am hard to understand those things
An ordinary analogue phone will have a plug like this:

An ISDN digital phone will have a connector like this:

Ignore the colours - concentrate on the shape.
i got it i have analog connection,
so why its not working?:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
ok then so i have to try to change it to digital
thanks a lot for help (altis)

No. The MP390 requires an analogue phone line.
so why it's not working?:(:(:(

I keep getting a dodgy certificate warning message when I go to this page.

I had one too... :erm: maybe a mod will check that out! ;)
1) check the phone socket using an ordinary phone
2) check you've enabled the fax function on the MP390. I have a little experience of a similar Brother machine and it wasn't simple to work this out.
3) try the fax in the other direction

i have already tried these
in this machine i bought bt adpter seperately
becos , this machine has two port which are for answermachine and other for socket, my answer machine has analog port, but fax machine has isdn port, so i sort it out by using the bt adpter
The socket on the MP390 is more likely to be an RJ11 like this:

I'd try a different lead. There are several different wiring patterns available.
Is there any information in the manual about which pins it uses?
i think this fax machine need digital line, look at this machine this is the one i have at home

This is a Group 3 fax, that is analogue. ISDN faxes are Group 4.
yes it is

But emulate G3 easily. My home fax is an ISDN card in my PC connected to the digital ISDN line, an analogue fax can call it though.
