Is the extra 1mb worth £13 pounds a month?
It maybe worthwhile if it was a 4mb service.

Im downgrading to the 2mb service, what about you?

I'm upgrading to 2mb (from 750k), thanks, but that wasn't an option in the poll...

Maybe that could be added as an option? Or just "I'm not on 1.5/3mb to start with"?

You could just not vote ;)

If you look at Telewest's website:

http://www.telewest.co.uk/websales/service.do?id=2

...there are 4 available tiers. 256k, 1meg, 2meg and 4meg.

I think that if the ntl network takes the current upgrades and doesn't fall apart because of the additional load then we will see the 3meg tier moving to 4meg (which is what Telewest did iirc).

Phil.

I am stopping on 3mb. I'm a speed junkie. I'll always take the highest speed available, even if I don't really need it, because the internet is a priority for me.

Some people buy fast cars when they don't really need them, I buy fast internet connections. And they're a damn site cheaper than cars.

Im a speed junkie too, but Not enough places really serve me that fast.

If I had a bigger cap on the top tier i'd probably stay but as it is the same, I might as well downgrade.

This poll needs restarting and the option for the 750k/2mb customers to vote. as it is if you have upgraded to 2mb you are voting no and making the poll look wrong. I have voted no but it no looks like most are not downgrading when infact therre may be more people downgrading to 2mb than those staying on the 3mb.

750K moved to 2mb happy with the increase speed dont need 3mb but know plenty who do.

It doesn't really matter what 2mbit people are doing, to me the point of the thread seems to be whether people think NTL has made the 3mbit service redundant.

You wouldnt be on 3mb then and therefore cant downgrade from 3mb to 2mb

I've been happy with 750k (it's the email that's always bugged me!). I'm getting the 2mb upgrade automatically today or tomorrow. I'll see what difference it makes but for me the question might be whether to downgrade from 2Mb to the new capped 1MB and save myself £84 a year. I gather there's a link on ntlworld somewhere that tells you how much you download. Is that true?

Heh indeed mb, If only the 13 quid premium resulted in a double of that cap, it would make people think twice about downgrading, but Im sticking anyway :P

I am staying on the 3meg service as well. From what i hear NTL aren't introducing any caps for the 2meg and 3meg until later in the year but are still using the guidelines. The 1meg tier will be capped enforced from what i hear.

running at 3mb for now (funny how the 1.5mb people were not offered a speed increase to 2mb - I know it was a pricing thing)...See how things go the extra speed is nice especially vpn'd to work!

I wonder if you have just upgraded to 3Mb if you will have to wait 30 days to downgrade to 2Mb?

I was upgraded earlier today from 750k to 2mbit and I don't plan to upgrade to 3mbit.

If it was 4mbit with a 80GB cap (although I dislike the idea of caps) at the same price as the current 3mbit then I'd reconsider...

I am on adsl (f2s) and have just gone from 512 unlimited at 22.50 to 2meg with 50gb cap for 24.99. This means i can now see a download?upload meter in my members area website ( both down and uploads count!)

was interested to see that with 3 pcs in the house doing a mix of teenage/parental/vpn stuff we are doing about 125meg /day, so plenty to spare!

2 meg with no proxy servers is just flying for browsing, downloads are at around 265k as expected.

T

that reminds me, must update my sig!

I will be downgrading to 2mbit at earliest oppourtunity, 2mbit is about right speed for me and I dont upload much, since the cap is the same on both tiers there is no incentive to pay the extra £13 a month.

staying on 3meg, if my newsgroup provider (UNS) was capped at 2meg speeds as advertised on their webpage then i might of downgraded, but its not! and getting full speed downloads at 3meg, so at the moment 3meg

The top speed should be at least 4mb 400k for the price..........

Or the 3mb 300k should be £29.99. ...........

The difference between the middle and top speed is not enough.

I didn't even bother going up to 3mb I called CS yesterday morning and they "downgraded" me from 1.5Mb to 2Mb ;)

So I voted yes as I did kinda downgrade from the possibility of 3Mb.

True. Needs a bit more to it to justify the price, but uploading at 30kb/s is too slow let alone 25 :p:

You shouldn't have to. I went through 3 tier changes in 30 minutes (bit of a cock up their end, but they sorted it). I assume the same would apply to you.

Yes, I shall be 'downgrading' to 2MB, as I can't see that there's enough justification for £13 p/month extra. I'll still be getting more bandwidth than I was getting this time last week, but will be saving money :)

I'm with you, 2meg is great when there are no poxy proxys in the way! :D

Can't wait for UKONLINE to offer 8mbit LLU on my exchange in May! :Yikes:

Saying that, if I was still with Ntl then I'd downgrade as their proxies are the limiting step.

When i did it online, it said i have to wait 30 days before changing speeds again. So yep.
