Hiya guys, is anyone having problems routing to a natwest site.

Whether its www.nwolb.com, www.natwest.com, www.rbg.co.uk (royal bank of scotland) etc.

I cannot access them via my normal broadband connection and a traceroute shows that its dropped from first router. Although if i dialin to a VPN account from work I can access the site. This helps me determine that its not a software configuration error/firewall/own network problem but in fact an ntl issue.

I have raised this with natwest who are looking at it but I would be interested to see if there are any others out there.

I can get as far as this ;

10 28 ms 27 ms 30 ms demon-gw.rbs.co.uk [194.70.48.134]
11 207 ms 49 ms 28 ms 155.136.65.4

Nothing after that - which suggests I'm getting to the rbs network - I guess they are then blocking icmp as I can reach the sites ok on http.

I can't get anywhere with the first link

The second link works OK

The third link takes me to Reading Bodybuilding and Gym :Yikes:

At a wild guess the third link should actually be rbS.co.uk rather than rbG :)

Edit:
And having tried all three they work for me so I can't help.

On the first link I get as far as

14 172 ms 218 ms 234 ms ftip002436609.mspaccess1.edinburgh.fixed-nte.bt.
net [217.32.245.26]
15 29 ms 29 ms 29 ms 155.136.65.6

Yep same here from a Pipex Connection.

Fine via HTTP so maybe as Paul suggests ICMP is being blocked.

:D

What I find strange is that if I try to open the first link in the same window using Firefox it doesn't work. If I choose to open in new tab or new window it opens OK.

Use natwest all the time, works fine for me - nwolb and natwest.

Oh yeah ian, I have problems with nwolb when you go on it sometimes it shuts the window, sometimes it doesn't

Works OK for me too.

As a matter of interest, what browsers do the posters with problems use?

There was a link on the NatWest login page a little while back about 'changes to supported browsers' - didn't bother to look as I use good old IE6!

Sounds like a browser privacy settings or firewall issue to me.

I wish it was, the only time I get this problem is when I use ntl, if I use a dialup or VPN connection it works fine

Nat West *finally* got around to deciding that they *could* allow Netscape users on their site.

Rang NTL (India) not happy, provided my with secure site if that I have had 18 million times and refused to transfer me through to a supervisor or give me a number I could call to make a complaint.

I have attached some screenshots to help, as you can see, its the same PC, same setup no differences, just one connecting fine via a VPN connection and another not connecting from broadband connection

weird...

firstly your tracert is messed up... that is saying that nothing is allowing any ICMP (ping requests) on the whole route.

the second is showing that the route is ok within the academic janet network but nothing more the traceroute does not reach the outside world so i cant see what that proves other than the page loads ok

i tried to trace nwolb.com and got out of the ntl network and there appears to be a router or nwolb that does not allow ICMP...

I have also included another tracert for www.tucows.com

I have only had this problem since the data centre issue ntl had last week, I can still access the site via the same computer on a different connection, surely that points to the ntl connection

if you run a traceroute to the natwest again do you still have no traceroute results?

No it doesn't work, it goes through 30 hops of request timeouts.

do you know of anyone in the area with ntl?

do they have the same problems?

out of interest have you tried an alternative proxy to see if you can visit the site?

Xathras makes complaint to Director of NTL, xathras has no reply although xathras can now route to www.nwolb.com hmmm how strange
