Why do we drink alcohol?

What does it achieve except a bad head in the morning and £XXX spent

What is the point of it?

because it is a social thing , letting your hair down , chilling out etc :p :p :p :p :p

Is that good or bad... I am having a can of lage as i type this but sometimes i struggle to make sense of why i drink, habbit maybe?

No we should all give up drink and cigs for those that smoke and wait for the goverment to find another way to generate the lost billions in lost taxe's :)

So your saying that we drink to fund the country, don't get me wrong i know that it generates a lot of money, but does that make it right?

It must have been what 5/6 yrs ago I caught something on the news that cigs generated 15 billion back then and then theirs the beer which must be in the same bracket. So lets give them all up and pay the extra taxe's. It must come to what 30/40 billion :D

All those people that hate beer drinkers and smokers will be very happy for it of course :D

I read somewhere that alcohol has been used in the "Western" world for so long that most races have evolved an enzyme to deal with it. Most "Eastern" races, apparently lack the enzyme & have a lower tolerance to alcohol.

I drink because I like it.:)

I drink because I like it.:)

I don't know if it's because of the long history, but I have heard about this enzyme. I heard that some orientals (individuals) have the enzyme, and some don't. Apparently, those who don't get a hangover first, and get drunk after that (so I've heard anyway). I guess that'll put you off drinking :(

not all of it...

i think partly because evryone else does it and partly because everyone seems so much more attractive and funny when we are drunk...

The enzyme is alcohol dehydrogenase (http://nist.rcsb.org/pdb/molecules/pdb13_1.html). It helps you process alcohol.
I love drinking (probably have an addictive personality), but not to excess. Dosn't feel good(imo) Therefore I don't get hangovers, so I'm all right jack!:D

i drink to excess regularly being young and all, but to date i have only had one hangover. my friends curse me sometimes...

but then again im one of those people that cant down a pint for the life in them (makes me feel nastily sick)...

well why do we watch porn. whats so good about people having sex. We could be having sex our self but no lets stay in and download other people having it so we can "pleasure our self" whats the point :)

This has been my argument for years!!!! It's expensive, makes you talk cr*p, makes you say things you really REALLY shouldn't and then you feel poo the next day. I think it boils down to the 'all my friends do it' syndrome, like smoking!

well like i said a couple of posts ago i dont get the headache so im lucky... and i thnk its different to social smoking for some reason...

ive shunned so many social smokers before... smoking doesnt make people look attractive like beer does it? ;)
