Hi there,

Just getting broadband installed for my dear old mum, having got her a new PC and a wireless gateway. It's all set up waiting for the cable modem.

I talked to NTL tech support about installation, and they confirmed that the SACM had both ethernet & USB, but he did say that it may not be possible to run the cable modem setup procedure over the wireless gateway, and it might have to be connected directly to the PC (sounds unlikely to me, but there you go...)

Has anyone successfully initialised the cable modem over a wireless link?

Also, can anyone shed some light as to what the setup procedure involves, so I can talk my mum through it on the phone? Does the SACM need any kind of login to be setup on the wireless gateway? [like my DSL does] or is it always on?

Thanks

Jezza

What kind of wireless gateway?

Set-up procedure...very easy... see here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/register.html#ntlreg

and here: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=7603

(I hope your mum has been sent her PIN! Some people have problems getting their PIN sent to them...)

It's best, IMO, to just do a manual registration rather than use the ntl CD....all the CD is really needed for is the USB drivers, which are obviously of no use if the SACM is connected via ethernet.

ntl cable broadband requires no "logging in" of any kind, unlike ADSL.

I've setup a wireless router this week - not something I'd try over the phone though.
