I upgraded by broadband during the end of last month and now by broadband bill has changed from paying 24.99 to £68.85 - Is this right?

The charges on my statement show:
11 Jan-27 Jan Broadband Internet 750k £13.70
28 Jan-10 Feb Broadband Internet 1.5Mb £17.16
11 Feb-10 Mar Broadband Internet 1.5Mb £37.99
= £68.85

Direct Debit will happen 23/02

I always paid just £24.99 a month - and now this seems to have changed - I was going to downgrade by braodband back to 750k
Will I get some sort of credit if I do this...

Any ideas?

I think you pay in advance so if you paid for 1.5mb service and then dowgraded during the month, in the following month you'd get a credit.

Yes every month you pay your bill for the coming month so if your billing date is the 11 of each month you are paying till the 11th of the next month. however as you upgraded on the 28 it is charging you at the new speed for the rest of the month and also your usual month in advance. as well as the part of the month you had at the lower speed.

if you leave it at the 1.5MB then next month bill will go back to £37.99 or if you called to downgrade than you will get a credit for the more expensive tariff.

Hope that makes sense,

Thanks for your responses.

It's just previously I was only billed in arrears for my broadband, seems this has now changed and I am now being billed in advance thats why this month I have basically been charged for 2 months service.

So when I upgraded I must have changed my contract to allow them to do this?
Is that right?

It would appear that Bluemango was billed in arrears for his broadband but with the change in speed this has been switched to payment in advance.

Edit. should type faster as he had already worked this out himself. I was looking up my bill as I am charged in arrears.

Well where I am and when I worked in Cust care NTL always billed in advance. Do not know if other areas have been different.

Thinking about the fact that I am being billed in arrears for broadband, with the introduction of Harmony will all customers like myself who are billed in arrears be changed to billing in advance? If so there would be quite a cash injection into NTLs coffers when this happens and a lot of unhappy customers who have not budgeted for paying double the month that it happens.

Edit: for Darth Yodas benefit I am in the Nottingham area that was Diamond Cable.

I cannot say as I am now working for business, but I imagine that when billing switches to Harmony that it may change.
