I signed up for 300k broadband last month and got the bill today with this charge on it.

Partial Month Charges (Additions)..............Monthly Charge...............Amount
Cable Modem Access 300k................................Ãâà ¢â€šÂ¬Ã…¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£17.99............... ............9.87

What's the £9.87 for? https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2005/09/21.gif

How much is the actual bill for? 17.99 or 9.87 or 27.86?
If it's the last one, then it's pro-rata billing.

Have a look at the dates on the bill and what time/dates each of those charges applies for.

Anyway, Orangebird will probably be in shortly to dispel my answer and say it's something to do with the voices I keep hearing, then give you a proper answer ;)

i presume when you signed up you didnt get a complete month of service and therefore you are being charged on a pro rota basis for the part of the month you have received the service.

It's for a partial month charge...

Anyway your bill will be printed on a specific day each month. Say for example it's the 10th and you call in on the 1st to add a package or service.

On the next bill you will be billed for the month ahead (10th of one month till 9th of the following) and for the initial period of the 1st till the 9th.

On the contrary Thorn, for once, you have it absolutely right. :)
