You would need an adaptor with the correct fitting, voltage etc. One of the variable voltage adaptors you can buy with different end pieces may work, have you tried contacting NTL to get a new one??

We used to be able to just post you out a new one, but they've stopped that now - we'd have to arrange an engineer visit, for which you might get charged. :(

Mines rated at 10V, 1.2A with a core positive connector. There are many equivalents such as one of these:

Note: this doesn't include a figure-8 mains lead. Try PLCORD18.

I think I might have one spare somewhere, though you would be fine using a replacment one such as the type you can get from argos, If i find my spare I'll PM you.

Have a look in Maplin. I just got a variable one for something else and it cost me £15, I would say that is cheaper than having an engineer out, someone correct me if I am wrong.

If your modem is no longer working because your AC adapter is broken I would have thought you should be able to get a new one from NTL seeing as you do not own the modem but rent it.

Hang on, if you move house are you meant to take your modem with you and hook it up yourself at the other end? I thought NTL had to do that?

Hmmm.....

Perhaps your wording was not that great to begin with (no offence), but that doesn't excuse them just writing back & telling you to source one yourself. :nono:

I would personally contact the MD for your region: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/article.php?a=28

That's staggeringly bad service from NTL. It's also bloody stupid advice. If you bought a power supply that supplied an incorrect voltage, you could damage the modem!

Anyway, as others have said, you rent the modem from NTL. It's therefore up to them to provide service if any part of it breaks.

I agree with Neil (it does happen occasionally :D ), you should contact the MD for your area.

Not wanting to defend NTL in any way, but if you used that term in your original email maybe there was some confusion and they thought you meant the plug on the ethernet cable that connects the modem to your PC or router, rather than the plug on the power adaptor??

As the others say, any part of their rented kit should be maintained by them, that's partly what you pay your monthly subsription for. I've just had them out today to replace a faulty TV box (STB).

Then ntl (supposedly the "professionals" in this situation) should have asked the customer exactly what he meant, instead of just sending a standard CS-BS â„ ¢ reply)

Yep. :)

That's an NTL supplied cable also. IMHO NTLs responsible for providing me with a working bit of CAT5 with an IP address on it, so the CAT5, CM, PSU, coax are all their problem.

This is analagous to providing a working phone socket to plug your telephone into or a working coax / scart signal to plug your TV into.
