Hello Peeps,

I wonder if you could help me?

I hve just gone frome NTL Home service to NTL Business they came out yesterday and done some re-cabling and added a nice new silver ambit 2020 modem. My problem is that now I can't get to my websever which is running from my pc, I use dynip.com for the ip changes and this picks up my new ip but the modem appears not to let anything connect the same is true if i run up a temporary ftp server.:(

The layout at the mo is the cable modem is connect via cat5 straight to my pc (although this will change once i get this issue sorted), i have contacted customer support and they are looking into it, they suggest that i should get a static ip address do i need this? ).
Lastly is there anyway I can connect to the modem and change the configuration? i have tried connecting to 192.168.100.1 and 10.0.0.2 and 192.168.0.1 but with no joy:( .

Any help would be greatly appreciated :tu:

Thanks.

I gave it a fixed ip of 192.168.0.10 the same when i was on the residential line what really happens is the dynip client that runs on the same server relays my real ip to their dns server so when you type in my http address it has knows where i am.
This sort of still works .......... if i turn off my webserver and then try to connect to it through a web browser, dynip.com informs you that i am currently offline if on the other hand i turn on my webserver and then try to connect i get the error message that the page cannot be displayed.

What is the difference between the Ambit 2020 and the Ambit 200?

As I understand it the 2020 is the 200 technically its just so that NTL can tell a Business one from a Residential one.

The CM file will be quite different, either a NAT or 5 public IP version IIRC. The modem itself is pretty similar really, no need to change a winning formula.

Ok so I have worked out that this is almost the same as the Ambit200 Currently I have the Nat version which I need to access so I can allow internet user access to my webserver, do you know the ip i need to access the web menu of this modem or do i need to telnet into it?

Thanks.

If you goto a command prompt and do a tracert to an external website, you will find at the second or third hop depending on setup your ip addy for the modem, they are usually accessible through a web browser but I am no expert on this

do you know the ip i need to access the web menu of this modem or do i need to telnet into it?The conventional address for cable modems is http://192.168.100.1/

If you have an explicit web proxy configured in your browser, you might need to create a proxy exception for 192.168.* so that you obtain direct access to your cable modem.

I used to have a Surfboard which had no prob's in gettin to config screens ( even through a router) that was until I had a ambit 200 and i'm havin same probs with 192.168.100.1.

It worked the first time i tried (ambit 200) but no more can't even get to the log on screen  . No explicit web proxy configured.
Should have stayed with Surfboard at least then I could have kept an eye on logs etc...when I was havin probs :-

It worked the first time i tried (ambit 200) but no more can't even get to the log on screenDoes your PC have a software firewall? If so, it might be blocking replies from the Ambit. Some Ambits have the peculair property of replying from their ISP-side IP address, rather than the customer-side one. Firewalls might perceive that as an intrusion, and block it.
