Hey all
In the last 2 days my 1.5mbit line started playing up.
It was fine and all of us sudden my downloads dropped from a steady 180k/s to below 30k/s, then climb to 40/50 and then drop below 30 again. It keeps doing this.
If anyone can offer me any advice on this issue I would greatly appreciate it.
Browsing websites is fine I dont notice any difference, but when downloading it become a joke. I have tried tons of places to download from like tucows.com / cnet.com / download.com and numerous others.
I work in the computer industry myself so I have gone through everything to hopefully eliminate the problem being me.
I am using a black terayon modem and its connected via ethernet as it has been for the last 3 years.
* I have scanned for spyware with spybot, adaware, pest control and many more.
* i have done a virus scan with av2004 and avg7 - nothing was picked up..
All the software was fully up to date with definitions etc..
* I have tried a different ethernet card.
* After all the above made no difference whatsoever, I decided to try the modem alone on my girlfriends pc, again no difference, it was exactly the same.
* As last resolt I tried the modem on a brand new system I just build for a friend and again exactly the same.
I love just outside the city centre, by the cov and warwick hosptital, I am not sure what ubr I am on tho.
I run the tech support and as always they tell me there is nothing wrong but its so obvious that THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG.
Also I have done some speedtests, and here they are:
Sun, 9 Jan 2005 05:07:39 UTC
1st 128K took 4610 ms = 28432 Bytes/sec = approx 237 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 8312 ms = 15769 Bytes/sec = approx 131 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 5735 ms = 22855 Bytes/sec = approx 190 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 8547 ms = 15335 Bytes/sec = approx 128 kbits/sec
Actual Speed / True Speed (estimated)
Downstream 601 Kbps (75.1 KB/sec) 649 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 248 Kbps (31.0 KB/sec) 267 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Communications 229 kilobits per second
Storage 27.9 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 36.6 seconds
Subjective rating Mediocre
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
