Nah, just plain, unadulterated, unspoiled, untainted, mince pies for me.

Don't even like 'em warm.

<Chuckling because before I proof read that it said "...mice pies...">

Very limited consumption this year. Our local Tesco ran out week before Christmas and never restocked :(

Still at least it stopped my waistline adding another couple of inches :disturbd:

That's right, if you have never tried home made xmas cake with a thick slice of Cheshire cheese on top you don't know what you're missing. :)

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo !

There are just some food combinations that should never be tried (excusing pregnant women who seem to tolerate weird concoctions).

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo !

Give it a try, you know you want to, it's delicious. Got to be Cheshire cheese though.

Just seems a little odd that this is the only thread attracting any attention at the moment. Does that say something about the sort of things we think about at 01:34 in the morning?

I've been making my own this year using sweet orange shortcrust pastry.Haven't bothered for years but my son asked for them especially.

Got some hidden away for the 6th which is 12th Night and when we will take our deccys down and eat up the last of the Crimbo goodies. :)

We bought six boxes of 12 (three with brandy in them  ) and have two pies left ... plus a box of mince puffs my mum brought when she visited.

Mince puff? Now there's a phrase that conjures up all sorts of images :disturbd:

Actually, in a vain attempt to get this thread back on topic (even though it was me that took it off topic :D ), I'm sure that I can't be the only person here who thinks that mince pies taste of death?

Oh, apparently I am - I'll be off then :p:

i think they are like marmite, you love em or hate em. personally i think comparing the taste to death is unfair to death, but there we have it. whoever thought of emptying the contents of the expired powdered goods, mysterious brown stuff, and a few cloves, into some pastry was a good idea?

Well all shop ones taste of moth balls to me.I think it's the preservative that they use to prolong shelf life.Home made ones taste fine-especially with brandy butter. :)

oi!

I had a lot of help ... inlaws (three of them, father, mother and brother) were here for two days. We took a box to Mrs T's grandparents as well.

In fact, I have eaten distressingly few of them. :( Just the mince puffs, really.

If you make them with the original recipe for Mincemeat they would contain minced beef.

I wish that people would stop posting in this thread as each time it pops up it reminds me of the Christmas cake and Cheshire cheese posts and I have to partake of the same again. :)

Aah, Cheshire cheese ... Mrs T and Jr T went to Asda yesterday and came back with some. Apparently Mrs T asked the boy which cheese they should buy, and he pointed to a wedge of Cheshire and said 'Yat one!', being of course completely unaware that it is his daddy's favourite.

However, I think he liked the shape of it rather than suspecting it was his daddy's favourite. :D
