FTP access to Webspace

Ok, I'm supposed to be a techie, but ....

It won't bl**dy work

Could someone answer a few questions ?

1. Is the username xxxx.xxxx rather than xxxx.xxxx@ntlworld.com ?

2. Is the password the original one or the one you currently use ?

3. Used to have dialup with username/password, when registering BB had to do username33/newpassword (advised by CS). Got the old account moved over etc and username33 deleted by CS. Has this had an affect ?

4. Have tried multiple combinations and now pulling whats left of hair out. Can someone help ?

As far as i remember, the username / password combo you use for ftp is the original ones you got from ntl , ie user=user.name33 pass=c054874514 (not my user/pass:D ) , you would have got this on first sign-up, hope you wrote it down;)

I swapped my user over when I changed to Broadband but for some reason it sent the webspace cuckoo couldn't log into it via FTP. Only solution is to phone tech.:(

OK, no answer from email to CS ..... no real suprise really

So on Saturday called CS .. explained problem to woman on desk, and she did some checks and finally put me through to Technical support ....


Getting somewhere at last....

Explained problem to guy in TS and he understood the problem. Said he'd setup a new username for me, using my current main identity password. Fantastic. Sent me a generic email about the webspace too. I'm on my way ....

or so I thought ..

Tried the FTP site with new info, with old info, with mixture of two, even tried Voodoo, still no access.

CAN SOMEONE SORT THIS OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what works for me is,
using internet explorer, in the address bar type
ftp://username@upload.ntlworld.com
username is the original main email account given to you by ntl
second accounts or changed usernames don't work.

enter password when promted

then simply copy and paste what you want to your webspace as you would with a local folder.

if this doesn't work what error message do you get ?

I more or less agree with trebor above.

What works for me is :-

Open up Internet Explorer, in the window type:-

ftp://john.smith:x123456789@upload.ntlworld.com


Where john.smith is your user name and x123456789 is your password.

Then copy and paste as trebor said.

Ron, the reason I recommended splitting up the log in was so if it generates an error message we will know which part is the problem.

ntlrebel has sorted out the problem for me and can now use the webspace.


Case closed I believe.
