Ok you lot, lets see what you can do, I want to go to either France or Belgium or get to Belgium through France the cheapest way possible.
I want to leave on Sunday and return Monday, not bothered how, it can be by land, sea but not air ( limit as to what i can carry, physically )

I think its going to be cheapest by road and to get the ferry ( discounted ticket ) or by the chunnel driving the car onto the train.
Do you know of anoher way to do it, and have any of you been recently, if so whats the prices like, would it be worth the trip ???

Details are, leaving from Teesside, 2 people, and an M.P.V

I was going to suggest walking (just make sure you've got your wellies on, bop :D )

Seriously, are you planning on staying in a hotel overnight in Belgium? If so, it might be worth having a look here:

just had a quick look - ferries from Newcastle or Hull, which I assume would be the most convenient, insist that you book accomodation, which bumps up the price a lot - over £300 for departure from Hull Saturday 1900 & return Monday, for example.

Cheapest were services from Dover/Folkstone, but you have the hassle of driving all that way.

- make sure the suspension in the MPV is up to it ;)

Contact Majestic Wine. If you spend i think it was £150 with them by pre order they will give you a free ferry ticket

Check here www.wineandbeer.co.uk/, i havent looked as im at work and alcohol sites get blocked

also look at off peak chunnel times, ofter 2pm out bound and before 2pm for the return. That can save you a fair bit too

The problem you're going to run into with Eurotunnel and the ferries is that you're leaving one day and coming back the next - so you won't get a good deal as a day tripper. If you can squeeze it into a day you can travel for about 30-40 quid.

becuase you're over two day you'll be looking at about £200 return.

There is a way to get to France or Belgium that's cheap.

Register with www.franceconnections.co.uk (http://www.franceconnections.co.uk/) the cross channel car share database.

Slick easy to use and likely to save a lot of people a lot of money!:Yikes:

Why not drive down to Hull and use the North Sea Ferry. Been over to Amsterdam several times on it and its quite good. http://www.poferries.com/portal/page?_pageid=1613,277695&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL&ph=www.poferries.com&p_menu_id=11&p_lang=GB&p_country=GB

Well depending on the route, even foot passenger tickets can be expensive. Also, you don't need to lug all your stuff on the ship and can bring more goodies back. You might even get a lift to your final destination.

Foot passenger is no use to me, too much *cough, luggage to bring back ;)

I ended up driving to Belgium in the end, not the cheapest way to go, but at least I had the freedom to go where and when I pleased, planning to go again soon though :tu:

When we used to do the ciggie run a few years ago we used to go on the Tunnel, it used to cost us £18 return, you had to go early in the morning say around 1ish then return about 6am just enought time to get to Belgium for your ciggies.

That's a good tip, always go when nobody else is, the prices drop dramatically.

I usually get a coach and ferry, it's about £34 from London stopping in both country's, doubt that'll be bettered tbh

Wander around a UK port acting suspiciously having hidden all your papers, then wait for an official to pounce... and then declare that you arrived hidden aboard a truck with many others from France (with a mock foreign accent).

But, seriously, being a seasoned Channel-crosser, the cheapest way I found was as a foot passenger on a night sailing.

To add my two-penneth, I wouldn't pay more than £15 each way. P&O or Norfolkline for your car at that price, on the right day. :)
