Hello there,
I would like some form of pet. I would not have enough time for a dog or a cat and my partner says a Budgie is out the window as it cheeps too much. Also no hampsters or gerbils or things like that!

Any Ideas?

I suppose a tamagotchi is out of the question then? :)

It might help if you told us why you want a pet.

I don't think I will ever have another pet.

I've had some success (and a great deal of satisfaction) from keeping Bonsai trees though, perhaps you could consider something like that.

Alternatively, if you really must have an animal (or animals), you could go for something colony based. I'm thinking ants, worms or sea monkeys.

cats take no looking after , far less tying than a dog :tu:

Cats really dont take a huge amount of time. Mine sleeps most of the day and night and comes to me for food, but when she's awake she's really affectionate and enjoys a hug, takes the stress of the day away etc. They dont cost a huge amount of money to keep as some people seem to think. About £5 worth of food a week and a bag of cat litter (£2 ish)

Snake, tortoise, spider, some kind of reptile?

One thing to think about is what happens with the pet when you are on holiday, etc. Maybe a cyberpet fits the bill.

I live in a small flat so a dog is out.
My partner and I live a pretty much 9-5 existance now....we used to work a lot of shifts. During holidays we have someone that would be willing to look after any pet we had.
Why do we want a pet? Because we would like a little something else in our lives (not a baby :) )

How about a big hairy spider ?

Most reptiles are very expensive to look after as are tropical fish because they all need heat.
An iguana is a cool thing to have but it cannot be around children.

Yes, I know you ruled it out but think again, There is nothing like having a dog, a real dog not one of those toy like ones, labradors or hunting dogs are good, best friend you can have, as long as it has room to play and run about freely that's what matters, definitely unsuitable for flats; look after them and they will look after you.

How about a African Land Snail.

My daughter had one.It lived in an aquarium with barkchippings to burrow into and a heat mat for the winter. Some greenery and fruit should keep it/her/him happy with an occasional spraying in the summer. They hibernate in the winter. They are hermaphrodite by the way. :)

Just make sure you only have one and don't breed it and DON'T release into the wild. They are not good for the environment!!!

Incog.

Fish are the easiest pet to have and are cool.

We have a small furry menagerie!

One large rabbit (did have two https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2005/11/7.gif) and two guinea pigs. Had a hamster until recently https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2005/11/7.gif.

A hamster would probably be suitable for a working flat - doesn't need walks/exercise, sleeps during the day, likes being handled in the evening, cute, cage can be taken round to friends/family/pet shop for holidays.

those are amazing...

as for me, i would suggest a chipmunk. parents have a cat that loves attention, and a stray kitten seems to have adopted me down here. chipmunks are so funny to watch though, they just run around like they are on speed all day and night... :D

Depending on your and your parteners disposition, I would / can recomend either

1) A grass snake, low maintainance
2) Some sort of rodent
