As you want to install drivers, I assume you are using USB & not ethernet?

Do you still have the ntl CD? You should be able to just reinstall the modem using that.

Or, you can get the USB drivers from here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/myron.s/BB-DeviceDrivers/

If you do actually use ethernet (& it is much better than USB, by the way), then you don't need to install anything special, you just need to make sure your ethernet card's drivers are installed (Windows would most likely have done that), & hook it all up.

Erm, that's for an initial ethernet installation, including registration, without the CD.

OOH, Very Old Thread

Not quite sure what model of modem you have. There is non USB Cable Modem 351000 on Virgin Media

Try this link http://www.ambitbroadband.co.uk/Support.htm for the USB Drivers for the 100/120/200/250 Modems

Remember they will not work on Vista and are not supported by Virgin Media

Done a bit of googling and it seems that Windows identifies the modem below as an ambit 351000..

You really need to use an Ethernet cable from your modem to your PC as Virgin no longer support connection via USB and no longer supply the drivers.

If your PC does not have an Ethernet card installed you can purchase one quite cheaply and either install it yourself or get a friend to help.

All you need to do to get a connection with Ethernet is connect your modem and PC with the Ethernet cable ( cat5e ) turn off the power on the modem for 10 seconds turn back on let the modem lights settle and click your browser and you should be online.

Or get one of these http://www.cables2u.co.uk/fast-ethernet-rj45-adaptor-p-235.html?gclid=CM6Ro5-JvZUCFQhNtAodlWACYA

Nice item but still unsupported and a NIC will probably be cheaper.

ooh dear -

whydoIneedatech you said "Nice item but still unsupported and a NIC will probably be cheaper" I was using one of these devices untill recently(10/100 RJ45 Ethernet LAN to USB 2.0 Adapter Converter) - as far as I was aware they just used windows driver. When I installed a printer all my USBs physical connection ports went to pot. now the picture is becoming clearer after each post. If virgin/ntl no longer supports USB (modem) maybe because I am using such a device (USB - Ethernet adapter converter) my troubles have started.

I doubt it has anything to do with it. If you are using such a device as the one above, then, as with Ethernet, you only need drivers for that device. Not the modem. In fact, Windows has no idea what is on the other end of the Ethernet cable, merely that something is sending it data.

What whydoIneedatech meant is that Virgin do not supply these devices, so if something goes wrong with the device and you phone Virgin, they won't support you.

However, if the printer you installed installed something that has affected your USB ports, it may well be preventing you connecting.

They look to be a very good device and perfect for the use you are putting it to, but if you used it to connect a modem to the internet and it lost connection then it would be an unsupported device and we at Virgin would not be able to get you connected without a NIC and an Ethernet cable.;)

But Virgin don't actually support the NIC, they support UP TO the card itself. Even if you have a PCI NIC or a laptop with a built in ethernet socket, if it doesn't work Virgin will direct customers back to the OEM/Retailer (or PC Help)

So there is no difference between a USB NIC or a PCI/PC Card NIC, as the customer is still responsible for making sure the the ethernet socket works ;)

I think the word support has been misunderstood here.
