I recently tried to send an e-mail with a 10mb attachment, and after about 15 or 20 mins of OE attempting to send it,I received the message saying that the file was too big. What is the max. size I can send please?

i cant remember what the max size is, its only a few megs or so, there are options in oe for segmenting the file into smaller parts which tends to help when sending large mails

It depends. I know the email system here will queue emails over 5MB for delivery overnight - but it also depends on what the receiving system will accept. I have had an email returned as the receiving server wouldn't accept anything over 4MB.

Also bear in mind that email will use UUEncoding or Base64 encoding on the attachment, and this will case the attachment to grow in size by around 25%. The best option is to upload the file to your webspace and email the URL for the other person to download.

yes, afaik OE doesn't itself limit the size of your mails, it depends on your service provider. hotmail is a crummy 1mb, but then it's a free service. Paid-for mail services may give you 5mb, 10mb or even (in a few cases) apparently unlimited attachment sizes. A friend who uses demon adsl claims she was told by their helpdesk that there is no limit.

Our corporate mail system instantly rejects anything of 10mb or over.

i seem to recall it is around 14mb , but .................... if the recipient has a full inbox then it will be bounced by the server , maybe i will be corrected about the limit :(

Depends on the mail administrator of the server that rejected the e-mail. The error message usually tells you.

As a rough guideline, anything over 3MB is too large.
