My parents asked me about going onto broadband. They are currenlty on ntl dialup - not in an ntl area. They just do basic browsing. What would be the best thing to tell them?

Wanadoo do a 1 Mbs with a 2GB a month 'usage allowance' for £18 a month - probably fine for surfing if they don't download much.

There are more expensive options with bigger caps if needed

www.metronet.co.uk do a pay as you go package which my girly uses... she is on the net every night browsing and chatting etc and her bill does not normally get above 14pound for the 512k package.

For a £1 more you could tell them to go to Tesco. £19 512K unlimited, no cap.

Sounds like speed is not an issue to them...

Thanks. I appreciate all the advice. They are just looking for a decent connection and not spending ages waiting for a page to load etc. Will pass on the info :)

I'd steer clear of Wanadon't.

No point whatsoever in having a 1Mb service if you're only allowed a pitiful 2GB "usage allowance" each month. Also heard bad things about them in general.

To add to the other suggestions...

PlusNet (http://www.plus.net) do a range of different services, capped & uncapped.
