Can anyone please explain why he first result is so consistently slow??
(I'm on the upgraded 1.5meg service).

1st 128K took 4445 ms = 29488 Bytes/sec = approx 245 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 709 ms = 184869 Bytes/sec = approx 1538 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 707 ms = 185392 Bytes/sec = approx 1542 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 713 ms = 183832 Bytes/sec = approx 1529 kbits/sec

To repeat this test from the source server click here

Thanks in advance.......

The "click here" bit in your post isn't a link

No idea why the speed on the first test should be so slow. I wonder if something isn't caching somewhere on a proxy. But then I don't really know enough about those things and I'm sure some tech bod will wander by soon.

Is this result consistent or is it just a 'snapshot'. Are you using robins speedtest ? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/speedtest.html

With any speedtest the results are a snapshot of 'now' but the next test might show totally differnet results. If every line' showed the same as the first then yes there would be something wrong, assuming you are on a 1.5 meg line.

I usually use the test three or four times doing a c&p in between and and try and average out the readings if it's within 98% of my known speed (cause I'm a poor STB user) then all's fine, otherwise its kick an scream time
