I have very bad memories of driving an Orion, my first (& company) car. One night the steering went and I ended up hitting a lamppost sideways @ 40mph.

Ouch! A mate of mine let the local dodgy bloke fix the brakes and steering on his Fiesta - as he was driving home the steering wheel came off in his hand and his foot went to the floor on the brakes with no resistance! A lamppost helped him stop too!

I can fully recommend it mate - because it has the appearance of a family car, the joyriders tend to overlook them. But put it next to a Calibra or an RS Turbo and watch their faces drop! I've given up my boy-racer ways but the 620ti is definately a wolf in sheep's clothing, and if you are so inclined, you can get some very sweet modifications for it :)

No, one of the one's where you switch off the engine as normal (no waiting time), take the key out and the engines still running (cooling itself down apparently....) for another 15-20 secs.

Yes! It's only after long journeys. You lock the car, switch on the immobiliser and let it purr till the engines cool again. It was a bit odd at first, but used to it now. :)

Also what if the car catches fire and you want to turn the engine off in a hurry?

I don't have a garage, so that's one worry ticked off....

I'm not sure about the second bit Diplomat - just hope it never catches fire. But TBH, if it ever did, I wouldn't even think of trying to turn it off anyway..... :erm:

Isn't it just the fan that keeps running on those types of engines, as opposed to the combustion section?

marcsparks2002
23-06-2003, 15:53
On my and most other imported cars turbo petrols or diesels they have a turbo timer to allow the engine to cool sufficiently whilst still supplying oil to the turbo and keeping it lubricated, otherwise switching straight off after a blatting would cause a seriously hot turbo to be without lubrication....then turbo gets knackered (although the insurance companies look very dimmly on these being fitted to a vehicle )

after talking to some of the people who were at the wythenshawe call center when the fire broke out, not collecting their belongings caused havoc later. People who had left their keys (car & house) / mobile phones / PDAs found themselves in dire straits (not the group)

The couldn't get into their homes, couldn't get into their cars etc, and as for appointments etc stored in their phones / PDAs etc.

Remember also that they were not allowed in the building again for 3 days...

a few seconds of "grab and walk" would have prevented this for those who were at their desks with those all important belongings in the drawer next to them.

Especially since at that point there was no sign of smoke or flame on that floor. I would not advise retrieving belongings if there were.

Its an 03 plated SLK32 AMG.

Although I drive it as often as possible its not mine but my partners.
