Am I right in saying you are not having to reboot the cable modem.
Is the IP address your router is getting from the modem changing every time you have to reset to get back online?

More info may help... :)

Do you use a standalone cable modem (SACM), or a Set Top Box (STB) to connect?

What are your signal levels? (see here - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/signal.html#signal)

What make/model router do you use?

Do you have a software firewall running?

etc

Everytime i reset, the ip is the same....
I am using a standalone cable modem (SACM), I was using a software firewall, but i turned them off...and also turned off the windows xp firewall (sp2). The make of my router is Mentor, it's a 4 port one. I think its quite old i brought it from an auction site...

(when i went to the link to check my signal levels, it says go to this link http://192.168.100.1/. which then asks me for my username/password??) which i dont know and i get a 401 forbidden)

My net seems to be working fine now, but its been off for the last 45 minutes...:(

If you have a separate software firewall, there's no need for the XP SP2 firewall at all. Just use one or the other.

What model SACM do you have?

For the signal levels, try using "root" as both the username & the password when you visit 192.168.100.1

Mentor router?

Try connecting the PC directly to the modem, bypassing the router. You'll need to reboot the modem when doing this (see http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/swap.html#swap for how & why).

If it's fine without the router, then perhaps the router is a problem.

Also, have a look here to see if there's any other relevant info you can post - http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=15305
