Hi,

Can anyone help, I have come across a P2P application called Bit Torrent.

I am familiar with Kazaa and Winmx, but i have not got a clue how to use Bit torrent.

All help greatly appreciated :dunce:

You just click on a .torrent link and that's it.
It's great for fast distribution of large files as in a new game patch or something.

BT is damn aweful, think of it like edonkey, but instead of links, you use a small file with hash info in it.

I found it undeniably un-user friendly, stick with Kazaa and Emule.

when i first looked at it i thought that , but after having a second go at it i am quite impressed :)
the only thing is can you shutdown and resume a download in any way or not

@SteRiley is it ok to pm you for the links as well
:)

If you close bit torrent you just click on the link again which you was downloading from and point it at the place you saved your file.

Then it will resume from where its from.

It may not be user friendly but if you want some hard to get files in double quick time then the likes of KaZaA are no match for it.

I experimented with it briefly and found it easy to find links ... do a google for 'bit torrent' and you'll get loads.

There was no GUI to speak of when I tried it, but I was using the Mac version. Don't know if it was different.

There is a GUI KazaA type thing you can download for Bit Torrents that I cant remember the name of... I dont use it because its rubbish.

Using the site links usually provides me with what im looking for.

A forum has just been opened for the world of BitTorrent. The link is here http://www.bittorrentportal.com

I'm not purposly spamming but this site and others have a vast amount of info on BitTorrnets.

BitTorrent is a different ay in which to file share. To use BitTorrent you need to access a tracker i.e. http://www.loonland.co.uk/tracker

The torrent file is made by hashing the torrented file and uploaded to a "tracker" which is then made available to it's users.

BitTorrent (in my opinion) is 100,000,000 times better than Kazaa and the like. I have never been infected with a virus or anything that may comprimise my network security.

If you have never used BitTorrent I'd strongly suggest you give it a go to share your own vids or family pics :naughty:

The origanal BT client can be forund here (http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html)

As stated, there are many BT clients available. Just google!
