i guess someone know's whats going on have a cable modem and been having probs over the last few weeks with connection on and off like a yo yo
was fine last week now it's started again
every few mins going offline then back online again
is there upgrading work been done in my area

Firstly :welcome:

Can you give us some more details.

What Modem do you have and how are you connecting USB or Ethernet and what are the status of the lights doing on the Modem when you lose the connection.

Staple go to

start then click on run select if you use windows 2000 cmd or XP if I remember right has to use command
A dos window will open type tracert www.ntlworld.com then click enter

this will then do the tracert when its completed highlight it all and in the top left corner of the window click and select copy then right click the reply box on this thread and select paste

15 mins down the road from me yet I havent any problems. Give BBKing time to monitor the mac address he might spot whats up.

I had exactly the same problem Staple(Wythenshawe), that was until around 2 hour's ago - they seem to have changed my ip address, so i'm not sure what's going on there

yeah seems to be ok now changed my ip aswell

Can you connect at all?

Did you send BBKing you mac address for the SACM over PMs?

yes i did send BBKing details he ain't replyed yet
and the problem is the same as before
seems my ip address changed had a 0 at the end of my ip address this morn instead of a 1 and connection was fine
but now i have a 1 again and got the same probs can go on sites but can't download and msn is on and off like a yo yo

Just which IP address has changed the one you get off the internet
can you please do another test for me.

Go to start click on runthen command or cmd for windows 2kwhen the dos window opens type ipconfig all
you should then get a list of all IP numbers like this;

Just edited to add I have now a speed problem in Manchester just taken this speed test I should be on 750K.

:erm: I hope its not going to be this every night. It makes surfing difficult I want my speed back that was great after the network was sorted out after the AMPs died...

No need to censor the second pairing in the MAC address, that is part of the manufacturer's prefix and is the same for all equipment made by that company most likely.

Nor is there any need to censor any of your private IP address, there's only the one private range in the 192 group and what you are using is given away somewhat by your default gateway, not that this is a security issue really. To exploit based on your inside IP is hard.

Should save you a few seconds next time you do all that.

I live in Manchester and I had the same problem last night. Internet went offline every 3 minutes, had to keep repairing the connection. Fine today though.
