Hi. Before I installed my router I could access the modems web page to look at logs and stuff via 192.168.100.1 i think. Now that I have installed my router, I cannot get to this page. Does anyone know what I have to do to get to the cable modems web page? I have one of those crap NTL Home ones.

Thanks

I can get there fine through my router...

Sounds like you have a proxy server specified somewhere.

If it is an ntl home 200 (it will say on the sticker on the bottom) there is a problem with the firmware meaning with many of them you have to reboot the modem before you can view the config page. Worth giving this a try.

I have a home 200 and its hit and miss I can sometimes access without rebooting it but other times it can't be displayed. I just keep trying every few hours.

Why do you need to try to look at your modems log every few hours :erm:

Im wondering this because NTL are going to install me a modem on Thursday so that i dont have to use my STB for BB and ive never had the need or desire to look at my STB's log

I have the same problem, but I'm not with ntl - basically the modem has an address of 196.168.100.1 - my router (buffalo airstation) has a lan address of 192.168.11.1 - and whenever I try to contact the modem to look at the logs, it tells me it can't find it... I've tried allowing the address through in the ip filtering stuff - but it just won't have it... I've given up with it really, since the logs weren't all that useful, and it was just a minor annoyance

As I say, I don't know if it is just my router being over protective or what - but if I take the router out, i can see it easily, I put it back in - no luck... most odd...

I didn't say I looked every few hours but tried to access the page until it loaded.

That is why I said hit and miss due to it not always loading the page when it does I stop after I have teh informatioin I was after.

Well it seems to want to connect sometimes in the end,

Ive just had so many problems with NTL this year, ive had to call for an engineer 4 times this year alone. and now my cable has been disconnected for 24 hours. D/S light flashes, SYNC is on Ready flashes and it wont connect. Im fed up of calling for an engineer, how many times do they need to be called in a year for the service to be classed as S**t. I would ask about compensation but i dont want NTL anymore. Im going to get BT and go on pipex ASAP. the only way I can get to the net now is from work which is annoying cuz work is crap :)

Summary of my problems.
Sometime last year - Cable stopped working - NTL engineer replaced cable from outside to my modem.
January 2004 - Cable stopped - NTL engineer fiddled with green box
March 2004 - Cable stopped -NTL engineer gave me new modem and fiddled with the green box again.
May 2004 - Cable stopped - NTL engineer installed a tiny 8db filter and yet again fiddled with the box.
July 2004 - Cable stopped - Turned out to be a local area problem for a change, NTL never bothered to ring the engineer to let him know, he turned up a week later and I told him it was sorted.
September 2004 - Cable has once again stopped. the last straw for me Im calling them tomorrow to cancel.

It works fine on my silver Ambit Ntlhome 120.

As do some secret pages:
http://root:root@192.168.100.1/P_log.htm - event log
http://root:root@192.168.100.1/P_rate.htm - interface rate
http://root:root@192.168.100.1/P_ubd.htm - upstream burst descriptor (dunno!)

Is it the root:root bit that doesn't work or the http://192.168.100.1/ bit?

Re: Gaming
1) you should use the WAN IP address that is displayed by your router

2) you will probably need to find out which ports are used by your game and then configure your router to forward traffic on those ports to your particular PC. As ever, there is lots of useful information here:
