I've got a virus that comes up whenever Windows XP starts and the broadband connects to the Internet. It's called Trojan.startpage.9.BO and I've searched for various things to try to get rid of it. It has infected explorer.exe but doesn't seem to be slowing the comp or doing anything else major. AVG finds it, but can't get rid of it... any ideas?
Cheers.

See if any other antivirus finds the same thing. Free online scanners area available. Try the one on http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

They will often have little routines that can rid your system of problems.

You have emptied your recycle bin of previoulsy deleted virus type files?

It could be a false detection by AVG - its been known to happen, however if i was you, try to go into safe mode and remove it as when programs are running they get "locked" by windows to stop them being deleted, which is why you sometimes have to end a program before you can uninstall it. The same principal applies to changes to a file.

Like MovedGoalPosts suggests though try another virus scanner to be sure though.

I chucked AVG about 2 days after installing it. It kept giving me so many false positives it was unbelievable. Put McAfee on and have had no problems since!

Given that most AV companies dont always adhere to the same or even their own naming conventions it could possibly be a new variant of something like this.
