hi everyone this is my first post....
having gone through the process of installing broadband for a friend..i went through all the steps, the system reboots and the broadband jump software attempts to test my connection...but generates a tcp/ip error....i've checked the network connections(properties) under control panel ...funny thing is that it shows an active connection...and im also able to recieve messenger spam on the computer(no firewall or adware installed yet) but i cant connect to the internet or access email. the modem is one of those small silver ones and is connected through USB
Any help would be appreciated

Unplug the cable modem and shutdown the pc.
Wait a full 30 seconds. Then turn the modem back on and wait for the "sync" and "rdy" lights to go solid. When they do power the pc back on.

This should then let you connect. If you are using win98 or ME, you may also need to go to start-> run -> winipcfg
then press "release all" then "renew all"
