Other, E-Trust E-Z Anti Virus.

Did you keep it (NAV) up to date ?

An anti-virus program is only one part of a defensive system for computers.

Some others being (in no specific order)
. A Firewall
. A Startup Manager
. A Spyware blocker/checker
. A well trained and suspicious brain.

Don't forget even for the most protected systems there is always a window of vulnerability between a brand new nasty piece of malware being released and the various protection agents being updated.

His complaint was that as much as Norton detected the virus, it did not remove it .... It was memory resident, and so could be identified and squashed ..

It kept itself inside "explorer.exe". I couldnt find it, one in registry, and two in msconfig startup. If I did, It would of been alot easier to delete.

I do do regular checks on Zonealarm, and each one of my 5 ad/spyware programs.

Startup manager? o_O;

F-Secure (http://www.f-secure.com/index.shtml) does a good, reasonably priced A/V&firewall package. We run it on Mandy's laptop and it's saved our bacon a few times (the au-pair)

It's very reasonably priced too.I've been using it for over a year now.Never had any problems thus far. Also they are very quick to get back to you if you email them.Had some problems with re-registering and when I phoned tech support they talked me through it.No hanging on for ages,no waiting on hold.Updates regularly without me having to do anything, sometimes as much as 3/4 times a day.

Incog. :)

Etrust anti-virus from CA... $30 to buy and only $12 a year for updates. Small footprint and low system load...

I use the desktop version for workstations and the server version for :erm: servers :)

Yeh, as Stuartbe said. If you use the 3 Steps on Microsoft's website you can get a 12-month free trial of the Etrust armour, which has the firewall and anti-virus, with free updates. It's extremly fast, uses VERY low system load (about 2mb of memory) and scans fast.

Well recommended :)

Here is the link to E-Trust EZ Armour, with 12-month free trial:

EDIT: Forgot to add on, if you don't want the firewall you can just remove it once you have installed it (like I did, since I'm networked ;) )

Hope this helps.

F-Prot for DOS - www.f-prot.com Weekly scan using the Task Scheduler. If you have a good firewall and patched OS, the need for a background scanner is minimal IMHO.

I use Sophos and AVG. I like AVG because it is free and I like Sophos because I can keep my network virus free and it can all be kept upto date from one machine.

AVG is good with finding them, but couldnt delete it. Panda gave me spyware..and norton, well that just didnt pick it up, we knew it was there, we saw the blue screen of death!.

Do you know how/where you caught it?I downloaded a certain untested/unpacketsniffed program, and it was infected, I found out.

It's weird - I download loads of stuff, including some suspect programs, and my spam quota, including malware, is about a few hundred a day at the moment, yet I never catch anything  And yet other people download something and hey presto - a virus. It can't be just luck. I feel left out :p:

:D

Many, many years I encountered a Pendown virus (I think it was called Pendown) on an Acorn. The virus lived on floppies - had to do because the Acorns had no disk drives. I also had a run in with the Blaster worm whilst working for my Uni. I was based in Computing Services (!) so I just asked a colleague to deal with it :o Other than that, my PCing has been virus free

And i hardly get spyware or viruse;s on this pc and its used 24/7 nearly by myself and other people, i regular scan for problems with nortons anti virus scanner, and with system mechanic and spybot 1.3 plus the new ad-aware SE, and nothing gets on this pc without me knowing about it

Ahhh and spyblaster runs in background :D

Command AV from www.authentium.com (http://www.authentium.com) Developed from the original F-Prot. Recommended by the sadly departed DAN Computers.:(

Never had an infection of any sort. Recent auto updates have occured 2 or 3 times each day.

I'm another EZ Armor (Firewall and AV package). I like the way you can always update to the latest version of the main software for free besides the ease of use. It's caught any viruses that have come my way in emails before I do anything foolish with them!
