I was hearing something about a bloke who wrote a book about 20 years ago i think. He put forward the proposition that the whole world is one sort of living entity - can't remember it for the life of me - and he had a special word for it

Sorry to be a bit vague but would appreciate any pointers

Issac Azimov, also used the Gaia concept in the later "Robots" & Foundation" series'

"Foundation's edge" springs to mind quite readily.

It was also used as the basis for the Sim Earth game. He was for a time based at the Cybernetics department at Reading University, unfortunately not at the time I did a couple of terms there, then we had Captain Cyborg.

And he's also recently come out in favour of nuclear power.
