Hi, does any body know if the cable to connect the stb to the PC for bband (CAT5) is a cross-over or a straight through, standard cable?

cross over.
you can get an adapter for your standard cable as well

It depends on what model of STB you have - if its a samsung, then its NOT crossover, if its a pace, it depends on what model it is - eg 1000, 2000, 4000 etc - post your model number and someone will let you know

Normally if it requires crossover it will state it on the back of the unit above the port. Normally say something like "X OVER", well it did on the ones we had anyway :)

Indeed correct :tu: unless it says X OVER above the ethernet port on the STB then you need a straight cable.
