Just applied for a job in Sheffield, about 50 motorway miles distance, to be told by the agency that this is too far for a daily commute!!!

What do they know? I have just done 3 months commuting to York, similar distance & not such good roads. Previously I had to commute to Chesterfield, even further, and then visit sites as far apart as York, Bradford, Hull, Derby and Boston.

Straw poll, how far do you travel (distance/time)?

Got that off my chest!! Agencies!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: that's 50 miles each way

About 2 metres, from my bed to my office :)

I work from home 4 days a week (sometimes 5) when I have to go into the office it takes me about an hour and twenty minutes door to door - via train, tube, and walking

Not sure what the distance is, it's outside London (Waddon) to Chancery Lane way

Is that 50 miles total or one way?

I currently commute 40 miles total.

About a year ago I was living at home while waiting to complete on my new house so for about 3 months i commuted 100 miles a day.

Roughly 35 miles each way, from Grimsby to Scunthorpe - it takes from 30 minutes to about 45, depending on the traffic. If I had to, I wouldn't mind driving to Sheffield or maybe Leeds (65 to 80 miles), but no more than that 'cos it's just too long and boring!

My journey is about 30 miles round trip, if I have a 8am start then I have to leave before 7am and enjoy all the fun of the M60 :erm: otherwise it's about 15-20 minutes.

teeky, next to the quote button on the bottom right of your post is an edit button. Press that and you can get your leeds untangled.

Press it on your second post and you can delete it. You can change history for at least 30 minuties, I think it is 90 minutes now.

Rainham to Romford, I have to drive as I must have a car available for work :(
About a 14 mile round trip - can take up to an hour each way if the traffic is bad - usually 40 mins each way.

My commute is 59 miles each way I have been doing it for the past 2 years, most of it is dual carraigway and motorway.

The motorway is a fairly quiet one so its not too bad.

Going directly, via car, my journey to and from work is 13 miles. However, this is going through Greenwich Park (which does open to traffic for certain times). However, I catch the train then Docklands Light Railway, and this is a less direct route. I probably travel 17 or 18 miles.

It SHOULD take around 45-50 minutes. Usually takes over an hour though.

30metres.... surely it isnt that far:erm:
annoyingly, because i have to rely on public transport, the journy takes me half an hour, would normally take fifteen minutes, but the really annoying part is i end up being half an hour early for work

I travel 7 miles each way, usually via car. I usually pick up my non-driving mates who work with me. (At least for the next two months at Ntl before we get made redundant!)

The best commute distance I know of is one of the guys I work with. His house is 2 and a half metres away from the entrance to the campus where we work. Admittedly he has another 100 Metre walk from the campus entrance to our building, but it still takes him around 2 minutes to get to work. And, costs nothing. Plus, he has all the advantages of working in an office (social life, someone else cleaning it for you, not being reminded of work on your time off).

The disadvantage is that he often gets members of staff who have drunk too much dropping hints about crashing at his place (no, I don't).

I cycle 4 miles all together to and from work each day, it would be less but road planning in Stoke is so bad there isn't a more direct route!

If I work from home 5 meters from my bed to the work desk...

If I go into the office, 90 miles each way 1 1/2 - 2 hours (depending on traffic)

Only started working from home last month so I was doing that 5 times a week to start out with...

Approx 7 "puff" miles "pant" now, as I "wheeze" have started cycling "pant" into work and its doing me in!

Then its cycle approx 5 miles back. (work that one out!)

/me falls off & collapses in a heap of wobbly jelly on the floor!

I did use the bus but the local bus company just ditched the service & another co. has started it, but do not accept the same bus pass.
So its sod the busses & use the canal for me!
