Plain seafood drink (7-6)

The lowercase r and y are possibles. It's doing my head in :(

is it "cryptic" or "sensible"?

[edit] just a thought.... "mineral water"?

Mostly cryptic, though there is the odd "sensible" one. I was thinking it's either a plain seafood drink, of which I know none, or it's a word for plain made up from a seafood and a drink. I was thinking water but then the y came up, so I'm not sure now.

hmm.... where does the "Y" come from?

too many ?'s in the first word by the way ;)

What are the other clues that link into this one?

greencreeper

Mineral water. Hmmm. That's the y out the window though, and it's not hyphenated?? Not sure about the seafood connection.

Other clues.

Go at university and make it more lively (3,2)
Something up. Not sure. First letter would give the first letter.

Running the wrong way (11)
Mis-something most likely. I have the M and the s is probable

Correspondence from fast writer? (7,6)
Pretty sure this is express letter, which gives the first r

Seer was hotheaded? Nonsense (7)
E???A?? Eyewash maybe??

Remains with top-class pupil found on boat (8)
?T???A?? Possibly staysail, hence the y

The T?R are correct.

[edit] Wish I could scan it or photograph it but I have neither a scanner nor a decent camera :(

how about a quick webpage using a table and &nbsp to define the crossword grid then we can have a better base from which to work

I don't know why I didn't see it before. I was writing y?T?R instead of ?yT?R :dozey: No wonder none of the solver things could help. When I put in ?y?T?R it came back with one word - oyster. Now that is a seafood. Next I tried anagrams for "plain" and I've sussed it :D http://www.drinkstreet.com/searchresults.cgi?drinkid=794&drinkname=category:20

Can't say I've heard of it nor would I fancy trying it.

Ta for the help. I think I can get the rest but I might be back :D

Old king, one entered carriage (5)

p?I??

I think it's the name of a king, but I'm not sure. The letter "I" in the answer is the "one" in the clue, methinks. That means that the letters either side of "I" would be a synonym for "carriage".

Only other one I'm stuck on now is:

Second ring is low (3)

Possibly ending in "N". The first letter is the last letter of the answer to the carriage clue.

Ta :)
