I tend to max my download speed on 120kbs with torrents or FTP: between friends sending DVD camcorder videos which can be 2-6gb :dozey:

Is that a quick speed for NTL 1mb or am I not running on all four cylinders?

I dont run kazaa or any p2p system nor have msn or other webwindows open whewn downloading with very little running in background.

On xp Home sp1 with a 2.8ghz AMD Athlon with 256ddr ram.

Users should be expecting to see 175 - 180kbyte/s. Maybe a little more, however 175-180kb/s is an acceptable top speed.

peacedude2k4 you seem to have a strange obsession with showing off how much you download. Interesting.

I transfer alot of dvd camcorder files from friends to my pc, where i edit them and upload them back some files can be 2-3gb and there and back in a day can take a bit even have to mail the finished edit back to them quicker then uploading it

Botties - read 'Kbytes' for that. Teach me to post with a baby in one hand and an unfinished urgent bit of perl in the other* after night work.

*I leave it as an exercise to the reader to work out what part of my anatomy I was typing with

You must have a lot of friends simultaneously uploading their camcorder videos to be able to achieve that download speed. :erm: :)

Yep, that is around the speed I normally get. According to getright (which can be wrong), I have been downloading at around 130-140Kbytes per second over the last couple of days.

Actually :notopic:, but I do help maintain video editing systems at work. I think you'll find things run a lot smoother if you bung in more RAM (at least another 512 Meg). Just a bit of advice.

PMSL well if someone bothered to ask I would have explained the DVD would be kinda expensive to mail to the USA wont it lmao. So it is uploaded to some webspace paid for by a friend where I then can download it at high speed, then I edit it do a bit of work as they cant do jack all on there system they are not ICT nuts even there website was made by proffesionals hired and maintained by them.

As for the downloading I hit the speed of 156kbs a few times now especailly early morning downloads, perhaps next time if before Aug 1st I will actually screenshot this just to shut u up :o

Right thats that point answered I need to go sort out next download NO I will NOT be giving link to this website as its a personal site for my friend and I to share his home videos, if you must know what they are of as some nosey people may :p:

They are of House surverying which he makes a dvd video of a home then with my editing and voice over and editing out when he falls over swears and bangs his head on a roof beam, we have a perfect video to send to people sometimes annoying i get them and they are just good to send as they are .

AHHh well roll on 1.5mb and NTL raise the caps because Im downloading more and more from this dude. Otherwise net is just used for this forum MSN Messenger and Lycos Chat

Sounds like a somewhat commercial use of the connection to be honest. Oh well...

What are you encoding those in?
You can get about an hour and a half in about 700mb if you encode them in DivX.
