I'd just thought I'd check...

If you're using a dial-up connection, do you need a firewall?

In some ways it's even more important than on broadband, mainly because things like trojan porn dialers (and similar things) can exploit it.

Any connection to the internet regardless of method will be open to the world unless it has a firewall.

Because you are given a new IP everytime you dial up, and dial up users tend not to be connected for as long, some people argue that statisticly, you are less likely to be attacked.

This may or may not be true, but it's better to be safe than sorry. I would always use a firewall.

Definitely. If you have dial-up, you really don't want some trojan dialler getting on your system & causing you to have a huge phone bill due to it dialling premium rate numbers.

Definitely better to be safe than sorry.

And, although you may (I don't know) be less liable to attack, a software firewall such as Zonealarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp) is still very good to have, as it will give control over your apps' outbound net access.
